The Chanel supremo said it was "childish" to even discuss the issue of wearing fur in a world where eating meat was normal.
German-born Lagerfeld, 75, a contemporary of the late Yves Saint Laurent, said that he did not himself wear fur. But he defended the practice, saying there was "an industry who lives from that".
Hunters in the north "make a living having learnt nothing else than hunting", he said, "killing those beasts who would kill us if they could."

And we live in a world where this has to be pointed out to some people.
Actually, I fear people far worse than ANY animal.
Forgot to add, should we kill off people because of this?
From the line in your sig, I think we already are killing off people. Where’s PETA for the baby people?
Define “we”.
I’m not.
“Forgot to add, should we kill off people because of this?”
The ‘we’ you mentioned.
I take it that you’re anti-fur, anti-meat eating?
I’m probably one of the few vegetarian, NRA members.
Just ask Jimmuh Carter.......
So, you will shoot meat? Human meat?
But how much of the fur industry comes from hunting? Isn't it mostly farm-raised? Mink? Chinchilla?
I mean, no one wears tiger-skin coats, right?
Only because of the legalities involved.
It’s very telling the peta liberals who whine about killing animals have no problem with killing unborn children.
The remark about wild animals killing humans is over the top. But his basic point is spot on. Its childish to worry about wearing fur while eating meat and wearing leather shoes.
Mr. Lagerfeld is one of my favorite designers. His success at Yves St. Laurent is exceptional.
"A spokesman for the support group Beating Eating Disorders said Lagerfeld's comments on size zero models were "a very sad reflection" on attitudes within the fashion industry. I'm a size 00 (a proportioned size 00)!
I walked past a PETA lady one day in the Center of Public Square in downtown Cleveland. She was only wearing panties and was holding a sign in front of her protesting leather. I gave her “the look” — she did not know what to do. :-)
Good for him. I had a run in with a top PETA person years ago, and they are despicable. They will keep pushing- they want to ban heating animals too. People need to stand up to them and other pressure groups. They also support terrorism (ELF etc).
We’ve got enough problems with predatory lawyers without having to worry about the fur-bearing weasels as well!
Savage beasts all!
That said, I haven’t run a trapline in years.
;^)
While he is correct in principle, I’m not sure if furbearing animals pose much of a threat to humans.
Whenever I hear the name Lagerfeld, I think of the Frasier episode where Roz mentions a guy wearing the cologne but Frasier misinterpreted the reference.
