Protests at The New School, where a student uprising over the leadership of the university’s president, Bob Kerrey, led to clashes with the police and at least one arrest on Thursday morning, took another wild turn later on Thursday evening.

A little after 11:30 p.m., Mr. Kerrey emerged from a university building on Fifth Avenue south of 14th Street to a sea of a few hundred protesters chanting for his resignation. As Mr. Kerrey walked down Fifth Avenue toward 12th Street, about 30 protesters began following him, some of them shouting insults.

As the crowd’s pace quickened, so did Mr. Kerrey’s. Then, Mr. Kerrey, who lost a part of his leg in Vietnam and wears a prosthesis, broke into a run. The protesters gave chase. Mr. Kerrey turned left on a cross street and ducked into a brownstone.

At some point in the confrontation, a protester threw a tomato at Mr. Kerrey.

( ... )

Mr. Kerrey, the former governor and United States senator from Nebraska who was given an overwhelming vote of no confidence from the university’s faculty in recent days, showed up at 11:30 a.m. asking to address the dissident students, but they voted not to hear him out.

The student demonstration began Wednesday evening in the ground-floor cafeteria, with about 50 of them staying overnight citing a list of grievances with the Kerrey administration, dating back to his early support of the Iraq war. They adopted a list of eight demands including a greater student voice in university affairs and the resignations of ...

I'm not wishing any physical harm on President-elect "Zero", but if it happens, it will be the same type of people who helped elect him, disappointed because they didn't get everything they felt entitled to get.

Maybe they'll throw pies?

Geez, Kerrey once called me an a$$hole, but for Pete's sake, I didn't go chase the guy after he did it.

Yeah, but tell the truth, Dr. Raoul . . . When I saw you take off your sunglasses during that confrontation I knew you really wanted him to take a swing at ya. Ain't that right? LOL.

I went through those threads, but all the links to the vids were dead. Maybe Kristinn or Doc has it archived.

The NB Kerry is a “moderate.”

...giggle... snort.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ... gasp ... wheeze ...

They are getting treated too well. And evidently they are being taught things in class which cause them to behave the way they do.

Didn'tja read that two of the main perps are philosophy majors?

It is really amusing that the fascists objected to the Frankfurt School and Adorno in particular. He of the "right wing authoritarianism" scale.

SNORT!

Sounds like Obama’s little SS to be are already testing authority figures to see how much bullying and intimidation they can get away with.

The first thing Mr Kerrey should do...is fire the faculty ring-leaders.

Excellent Post!

The students have a right to protest. No one out there doubts that.

But there’s gotta be a time when the administration says

“We’ve heard you. You’ve made your points. We appreciate your input. We really do.

Now here’s the reality of the situation. None of you own this institution - no matter how much tuition you are paying. This administration will make the rules regarding how this place is to be run.

You are to abide by these rules or seek another place to continue your education”.

That a holder of the Medal of Honor would be subjected to such behavior is appalling.

This is total b.s. and all law-breakers ought to be arrested and prosecuted.

That said, I have no sympathies at all for the worthless “New School” which is nothing but a leftist Romper Room for the feeble-minded twits who couldn’t go to a serious college.

btw, let’s not forget that it was the New School board that had some special connections with Norman Hsu, Maggie Williams, and that whole Hsu-gate scandal. So I’d be glad to see the New School go right out of business. They really do suck donkey parts......

I'm glad they obscured the little darlings faces, but probably unnecessarily, since most of them are probably pushing 30 and living in their parents' basements.

Kerrey's an idiot, but these goofoffs are about a year late and a draft card short on the Iraq war.

If they want a greater say in the administration, fire all the instructors and let them teach themselves.

Degrees in navel-gazing are in demand these days, I hear.

They should not be called anit-war kids. They should be called peacephobes:

Peacephobes: People who don't support our Troops are peacephobes. The peacemaker is not always the person who gets between two parties and brings peace to them. Sometimes, peacemakers eliminate the bad guys so others can live in peace. See the people who belong to Code Pink for an example of a peacephobe.

Should not do that.
It will hurt their self esteem.
