AMSTERDAM: Two years ago, the Dutch could quietly congratulate themselves on having brought what seemed to be a fair measure of consensus and reason to the meanest intersection in their national political life: the one where integration of Muslim immigrants crossed Dutch identity. In the run-up to choosing a new government in 2006, just 24 percent of the voters considered the issue important, and only 4 percent regarded it as the election's central theme. What a turnabout, it seemed - and whatever the reason (spent passions, optimism, resignation?), it was a soothing respite for a country whose history of tolerance was the first in 21st-century Europe to clash with the on-street realities of its growing Muslim population.

Well, it’s a start. God knows that the coalition between Muslims and the left makes little sense, since Muslims despise everything the left stands for.
But after reading this article carefully, I don’t really see much real change.
Muslims, she says repeatedly, must become Dutch. They must become tolerant. They must abandon their past allegiances and fit into their adopted country.
But we know that they won’t cooperate with this plan. So, what then? Ship them back where they came from? Punish them? What does she actually propose to DO about their intransigeant refusal to be good, tolerant little Dutchmen?

It makes sense to the Muslims for now — when the time is ripe, the left will be the first to get their throats cut. They have one thing in common: their desire to destroy the West.
They are winning the Jihad without firing a shot (or blowing up a single suicide vest.)
Ploy for votes or not, the argument needs to be taken seriously. The problem is that the liberal credo "you can do anything you like as long as it doesn't harm others" too quickly devolves into "you can do anything you like." That's a problem when what certain individuals like to do is force others into their mold. For their own good, of course. Or not.
This is pure power politics and unfortunately I don't see it addressed outside of overt violence, some of which has already taken place. Can the state force a group of otherwise inclined people to be "tolerant"? No, it cannot. All it can do, what it must do, and what it has so far failed to do, is to prevent those inclined to violence in the advancement of an insular, oppressive culture, to stop. There's nothing complicated about it although a number of people seem determined to make it more complicated than it is.

That will never work, and will only create more division in the world. We need to accept all people, as has always been the case in America. Immigration controls to ensure people are not radicals or criminals are the key.

Unfortunately, it took the London subway bombings and half of france being burned down for parts of Europe to start waking up to the islamofacist nightmare they have lazily allowed to fester in the name of liberalism & multiculturism.
Assimilation with European immigration worked. Why? There was a common religious and cultural thread despite the discrimination suffered by the new immigrants (Jews and Catholics). This, in general terms, is not occurring with middle-eastern, asian and south asian immigration. There does however appear to be a ready “melting pot” gene among Asian and south Asian Christians.

This line of reasoning works just as well everywhere it’s tried.
It’s hard to believe we are behind the Dutch on this issue. But we are.
It’s definitely a major conceptual step forward for leftists, so it’s a very welcome development. Like you, I’ve got reservations. I saw an interview with a Dutch Catholic clergyman (unfortunately I can’t remember his name or office) who was asked about this. His reply went something like, “All right, now they’re saying that we have to assimilate them, have to get them to adopt our values. Well, I ask you, what values are those? Euthanasia? Gay marriage?”
No, actually the Left-Muslim alliance makes perfect sense. Both the Left as originally defined in Europe, and now spread across the globe, and Islam have as a major part of their self-definition the hatred of the Gospel.
“Multicultural” tolerance extends to every non-Western culture, creed, or belief-system, except Eastern Christianity, which if anything is hated more than the Western Christian confessions.

Our illegal immigrant problem is from Central American Hispanics who are highly Judeo-Christian, they are not assimilating to say the least.
Meanwhile, while I will agree with you to some extent about Middle Easterners and Indians, the Atheistic Orientals do assimilate within a generation.
You tell me, would you rather walk through a Judeo-Christian Hispanic neighborhood like South Central Los Angles at night or an Atheistic Chinatown?

Finally, someone gets it. IF only our idiot politicians would understand what's happening to America because of this very thing. Not only is it Arabs, but we've got the same problem with people from Mexico and South America, from China, and Russia, and from just about every country in the world.
Why should Americans have to learn 50 different languages so we can understand them This is America. Learn our language and our customs or get the hell out. America has to be FIRST and if they don't like it, then they can go back to their own country and speak their language to people that understand them.
