(San Francisco 12/29/08) In a statement issued today to be run in tomorrows NYTimes, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said this in regard to the implementation of Barack Obamas social and economic reforms:
It is without question the new Democratically controlled Congress and Senate need the support of Republicans in bringing a new dawn to America after 8 years in the abyss. It would be absolutely irresponsible for Democrats to pass these reforms, enabling Americans to get back to work, Universal Health Care and needless and overly costly programs without the support of Republicans.
The main problem is, Democrats can of course pass these with no help or support from the now majorly minority party, but in the unlikely event things were to go horribly wrong, the Democrats would have no one to blame but themselves and normal Americans would point their finger squarely at us. If at least 1 Republican joins in the effort to enact reforms, we would then have the other party to point the finger at. Its a simple numbers game really, we desperately need their support so we can use it as a method to shift blame.
When asked why they just didnt enact everything without support from across the aisle, Pelosi said, I never said we wouldn't and we will gladly take full credit should things work out, but, this is America. Never, ever take personal or party responsibility when things go wrong and can be successfully blamed on someone else.
Developing..
Nancy Pelosi can kiss my ass. I think that pretty much sums it up
**** BLANK STARE ****
San Fran Nan will get what she wants, all she has to do is slip a little pork for Maine in any bill, that gets Snowe and Collins, two for the price of one.
relax, it’s satire..:)
Republicans better grow a spine, and quickly. Block EVERYTHING they can that Obama wants to put through, because it’ll be bound to be dangerous to the United States.
its satire.
So close to the truth it's scary
As Rush says, this is a sitcom, right?
If there was any leadership in the Republican party they would let the democrats fail in their efforts to create a socialist America. It will be a tough four years if they have the courage to stand up for principle.
The Republicans should let the Democrats sail off into the sunset be themselves....
thank you. I appreciate the compliment..:)
Can you say, "Red Dawn"?
Cue the circus music.
I love the stupidity of this woman. The Republicans should fire back ASAP: Pelosi and Reid need no such thing. The Democrats control two branches of government, so they are free to do what they want. And heaven help the Republican’s that go along with her. They should stand solid against everything the Democrats plan to enact, so that they can run stronger than ever in 2010.
its funny that even though republicans are in the minority now and can’t do anything, they could have so much power if they were just be a tiny bit braver than pelosi. Pelosi knows alot of what they want is unpopular and want cover
Uh...no they don’t... They have the majority. Time for them to step up to the plate and govern.
Of course, the Republicans won’t see it that way, and will likely heed the call of the shrew from SanFran, sadly.
Meantime, I’ll be here, on the hill, clinging to my Bible and my guns. I figure we may well need both before this circus leaves town.
Republicans will be CRAZY to sign their signature on their agenda. .... or will they???
This weekend, Juno Blastocyte, one of the three remaining Times readers, died at 108...
My comment is still true, however, satire or not.
