America's Amazing Resilience ( Have faith fellow conservatives )
American Thinker ^ | December 29th | James Lewis

Posted on 12/29/2008 1:58:09 AM PST by Halfmanhalfamazing

Many conservatives are still reeling from the sense that America has finally been suckered into a catastrophic swing to the Left. Has our luck finally run out?

How can I be so sure we will survive a turn to socialism? Other than our response to 9/11?

First, we've been here before. The New Deal was socialism, and it harmed this country by prolonging the Great Depression, according to economists. We grew out of the damage. LBJ's War on Poverty was socialism, doing enormous harm to black families by supporting social pathology.

Our third wave of socialism was affirmative action -- race-and-gender socialism. I have personally watched the decay of academic values in education as a result of affirmative action, and the rise of a gender-and-race paranoia, with many good and decent people being falsely accused because of their race and gender. I believe that affirmative action has led to more racism, just as gender-based affirmative action has undermined trust between men and women. It has been tremendously destructive, not just in the US but also in Europe -- which has left itself wide open to Muslim terrorism because it cannot allow itself to even think the words "Muslim terrorism." It's a kind of pc madness.

So we have seen a great deal of socialism already in the United States. In many cases it has been destructive. The evidence is right in front of our eyes, but if 52% of the voters cast their votes for socialist goodies, they deserve what they will get, both good and bad.

My optimistic point is that the country will survive and thrive regardless.

I am old enough to remember: the Cuban missile crisis; the Kennedy assassinations and King's assassination; race riots every summer; the Viet Nam War; waves of massive antiwar demonstrations; bombings by the New Left; Watergate; Nixon's resignation; the wretched Johnson, Carter, and Clinton presidencies; the Cold War and nuclear terror; three Mid East wars; a half dozen recessions; dozens of public and private tragedies; and several personal health crises.

The country (and I) survived them all and often prospered. The Obama presidency and the current economic turmoil will be another bad patch, but I am confident that the country (and I) will get through it.

Yes, more accurate. Thank you. The TDPM Party.

Third parties are a certain path toward political irrelevance. The current economic pinch will lead to a renewed appreciation of economy in government in Florida and elsewhere, with Republicans leading the effort.

His arguments are less than convincing. Rome *survived*, in some form, to the present day. Still one could hardly say they thrived.

The immense damage done by FDR and LBJ is *still* creating havock in our nation. We are not the USA of my chlidhood, let along my grandparents day.

Another four years, New Deal II, Great Society II, and who knows. We may well be AINO, America In Name Only.

Don’t forget that the media is dying.

The old dinosaur media, that is.

Ironic enough, that’s not why people voted for Obama.

As has been repeatedly and repeatedly pointed out, people didn’t have a clue why they voted for obama. They just voted for him. Because it was cool, or because all they knew about mccain and palin(courtesy of the lib media) is that they were bad. very bad.

And don’t forget about that 20% of conservative voters who voted for obama in protest against McCain.

There was a good reason for the United STATES of America. The balance to overwhelming Federal power was vested in individual States; their Governors and legislators.

Our efforts must be geared to strengthen and invest in GOP power where future US Senators & reps & POTUSes are nurtured.

Couldn’t hurt.

I will no longer be fooled by Republican lip service. You can fall for it if you wish. Please name one government program they have eliminated or reduced. Or any PC BS they do not buy in to. They are irrelevent by definition.

Our tax reforms, including Reagan's, have steadily reduced the proprtion of Americans who pay income tax and has converted the people dropped from the tax rolls into tax consumers whose immediate interest is in rising government expenditures and rising tax rates because they do not perceive themselves as paying for them. That portion of the population is relentlessly socialist and we fight out our elections amongst the other half-plus-a-smidgen and we have to get nearly all of that segment or we lose and some of them are liberals and socialists in spite of their status as tax payers. One more tax reform and the country will be hopelessly socialist and in permanent economic decline.

This rosy scenario presupposes mostly honest elections but with the rise and incredible wealth of organizations such as ACORN, that is no longer a reasonable expectation.

“Why don’t Republicans clean house when they come in to office? I believe that as long as you have liberal buraeucracy, government will remain in a left leaning downward spiral.”

A very cogent point. In the past 10 years, we have seen a number of court rulings, both in federal and state courts, that have scolded liberal bureaucrats and essentially destroyed their destructive policies.

The problem is that there are few conservative lawyers in America to pursue and destroy these fascist bureaucracies in the courts.

The liberals ignore constitutional rulings and find Marxist judges to ignore precedent court opinions. A good example of this was when the 6th appeals court was ordered by the US supreme court to stop harrassing a farmer named Rapanos under bogus laws written by the EPA. THe 6th told the USSC to go fly a kite. THe USSC was forced to revisit a previous ruling.

In this instance, our supposed “protectors” in congress refused to impeach members of the 6th for their blatant disregard of law.

I agree that things will get better. However I'm dismayed at the lack of passion and ever apparent apathy concerning this scam perpetrated against the citizens of this country.

Anyone want to explain this to me before it happens again?

People voted for Obama because they are looking to government as the solution. That is a fundamental and fatal shift in the American character.

Conservatives lost when they forfeited the public education system (through complacency) - and I take no joy in saying that.

IMO, we first need to realize there is NO TWO PARTY SYSTEM.

It's a ruse to steal our wealth, before, during and after the election.

“america’s amazing resilience”

can america withstand another bunch of adolescent, psychotic punks in positions of power?

the current bunch about to take power will answer that question.

(watch for more and more obnoxiousness from those who think that those with political power are exempt from the law.)

IMHO
