Many conservatives are still reeling from the sense that America has finally been suckered into a catastrophic swing to the Left. Has our luck finally run out?
How can I be so sure we will survive a turn to socialism? Other than our response to 9/11?
First, we've been here before. The New Deal was socialism, and it harmed this country by prolonging the Great Depression, according to economists. We grew out of the damage. LBJ's War on Poverty was socialism, doing enormous harm to black families by supporting social pathology.
Our third wave of socialism was affirmative action -- race-and-gender socialism. I have personally watched the decay of academic values in education as a result of affirmative action, and the rise of a gender-and-race paranoia, with many good and decent people being falsely accused because of their race and gender. I believe that affirmative action has led to more racism, just as gender-based affirmative action has undermined trust between men and women. It has been tremendously destructive, not just in the US but also in Europe -- which has left itself wide open to Muslim terrorism because it cannot allow itself to even think the words "Muslim terrorism." It's a kind of pc madness.
So we have seen a great deal of socialism already in the United States. In many cases it has been destructive. The evidence is right in front of our eyes, but if 52% of the voters cast their votes for socialist goodies, they deserve what they will get, both good and bad.
My optimistic point is that the country will survive and thrive regardless.

Sure, these next four years are most likely really gonna hurt. But we'll get past them.
And keep up the good work. 4 years of Obama is going to bring us 8 years of Palin.

In Florida we have had a supposedly Republican Government for years. Well every time you turn around there is a new agency to mess you up. Aything you want to do you have to have permits fees licenses etc. The sales tax was 4% now it is 7% and going up. Almost a 100% tax increase. No where has the size and scope of govermnment been reduced. Same with Bush and the Washington RINOS. I am going for a new party to vote for. I do not see the edge to vote for Republicans any more. I am just as disgusted with them as the Crats.
I just hope we can afford the "l" in "Palin" by the time Obama is done with us...
Also...FDR, Johnson, and political correctness are still wrecking their havoc. 70% black illegitimacy rate and high rates of illiteracy and innumeracy are merely 2 symptoms among many.
When the socialists have purged Christianity from America, there will be no hope left for this nation, as it will no longer exist.
This is a good read. However, I think we must be very careful of the “this will work itself out in time” concept. We cannot allow our outrage to be replaced with apathy. Hopefully optimistic, while diligently suspicious - and always vocal.

No argument from me- our sales tax went from 3% to 7% ( "for the children"-- the schools ) while property taxes quintupled. Yes, "Da Skoolz" again. Lotto was supposed to pay for it... all it's done is cheat the poor, stupid, gullible, and greedy out of money they ought to spend on their families.
And what I see locally is being repeated in Atlanta, and in DC. A plague and a pox on both their houses.

The county stayed impatient with us because we were “pioneering”. One building department man scolded us, “Why don’t you get a loan and get this finished up!”
Bureaucrats! When Republicans get elected, they don’t seem to do anything about the liberal bureacracies. They leave left-wingers in those positions.
Why don’t Republicans clean house when they come in to office? I believe that as long as you have liberal buraeucracy, government will remain in a left leaning downward spiral.
The article posted doesn’t make me feel any better at all. It just reminded me that each bout of liberal big planning, FDR, LBJ and onward ends us up at a new low in that downward spiral.
And now we have come to the place where we have a one-party system instead of a two-party system. It is the DemoPubMedia Party that rules the land now.
That happens here and I just won't be buying anything much. If I can't grown it or make it I'll swap it. Easy as that.
That blood sucker needs to find a new host real quick.

Bob Ehrlich tried it in Maryland after some 40 or so years of D rule and the D run State House kept him busy with law suits for ‘illegal firings’ etc...Naturally, when O’Malley took office, the first thing he did was get rid of ALL the dastardly R’s and replace them with friendly D’s..Haven’t heard of any suits etc...
There ya go...
I think that if Barry makes it through his four years without being impeached, we will have become simply a giant African left-wing thugocracy. The US will have become more or less a police state, probably with the good folks from the Nation of Islam in charge of much of it, and life for three-mansion guys like Barry will be great, but for the rest of us, it’s going to be day after day of drudgery to pay for his mansions. Even immigrants won’t save us, because we will no longer get Latin Americans and Asians, but will start accepting huge numbers of immigrants from Africa and the Middle East, and we will start accepting and legalizing their customs, too. You can expect sharia to be implemented here, at least in their communities, within four years.
So I’d say I’m much less optimistic than the writer of this article.
That's about all you can do- that 7% makes a vast difference in big ticket items- it's kind of like having The Gooberment as your silent partner, dipping in to the till at every move you make.
And no, they never get enough- they are always begging and demanding more.
