I'm not exactly sure what this is about, but thought it important...maybe it is about the lawsuits involving supposed damage to dolphins etc?

Under the settlement, the Navy agrees to:
* Use shipboard software to scan training areas for marine mammals and to plot a course meant to avoid sensitive areas when possible.
* Look for whales through passive sonar, lookouts and aircraft during training so that the animals can be avoided.
* Reduce or shut down sonar when whales or dolphins are spotted close to ships.
The settlement comes after the Supreme Court sided with the Navy in the similar lawsuit, which was aimed at restricting the use of sonar during exercises off Southern California and Hawaii.

This was never about damage to aquatic animals and fish. It was about MONEY pure and damn simple. Now, they (these honorable ecologists and marine 'researchers') are assured a continuing funding line [insert 'protection payoff' here].
It is all bullshit.

So it was really just a scam for money... and not for the benefit of the wales at all.
To: Gaffer
Yep, the Navy has been effectively “Jesse Jacksoned” and will begin paying extortion money to the green pimps.

Sonar Concurs! I'm a 22 year, and still going, Navy Sonar Technician. I started my career pinging like crazy in the mid 80's and NO ONE said anything. We, the Navy, have been pinging away for decades...in every sea/ocean we sailed in. And no one said anything. It's in the last few years that things have become crazy. Now, before I can have my guys "go active" for training and to make sure our systems work like they're supposed to, we have to run a couple of different computer programs to see what mammals are historically in the area based on the time of year; record our data on where/when/how long/what frequecies we were active and send them to a central collection area for future reference (lawsuit litigation when a blue nose, beaked humpfinned whale fish beaches itself 500 miles away from where we were pinging. Oh...and the extra lookouts posted...even at night...in case we stumble upon a single whale/dolphin in the middle of the ocean. Rest assured our potential enemies have no such restrictions and practice their art much more realistically than we do ours. (steps off soapbox) Happy New Year from Iraq! Stay safe all...

I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that if you went back and reviewed all of the tapes of homo Jacques Cousteau (and now his 'son' Jacqueline Cousteau), you'd find them pinging the crap out of some school of fish, group of whales, etc.
Do as I say, not as I do, mais qui, after all it was for seeeance!

One question...
What gives these environazis “standing” in court when “we the people” cannot even demand a valid BC from the “President Elect” ????

Not the first. The enviros also nailed Team Sub on outboard coatings and materials for being "environmentally unfriendly". That's an expensive fix as well as a mission degrader.

Riiiggght. The Navy is an agent of environmental stewardship. Stephen Decatur must be rolling over in his grave.

Its just like the time Dianne Feinstein ran the Navy out of the San Francisco Bay area. It was right after they completed a billion dollar upgrade of Navy housing and property for the sailors stationed there.
It was MONUMENTAL theft of national resources and taxpayer dollars.
She is just about the WORST senator in the history of the United States.

And the new Iranian sub. Shaped like a Blue Whale.

After all marine life was killed by sonar and depth charges during WWII, what are they talking about?
