John P. Pryor, 42, of Moorestown, the dedicated leader of the University of Pennsylvania's trauma team and a decorated major in the Army Reserve who wrote eloquently about the painful parallels between battlefield deaths and urban homicides, was killed on Christmas by enemy fire in Iraq while serving as a combat surgeon.

It’s pretty sad that our support troops are still subject to mortar fire. One would hope that by year 5 we’d have some safe regions, say those for hospitals. Maybe it was a freak shot, but it sure sounds like even after the surge it’s not really all that peaceful there.
A tremendous loss by all acounts.

The really bad thing about war is it kills the best of us, those who see their duty and guard their honor. Such men are priceless.
Look around you at all those not deserving still taking up space. Compare Dr. Pryor on the one hand and Bernie Madoff on the other. There is no justice.
I remember my son saying those words when he graduated from Basic training, made me so proud.
This is a devastatingly sad story which should only serve to strengthen our resolve against all our enemies during this Battle.
Prayers for Dr. Pryor and his family.
Perhaps not in this world, but there will be justice in the next.
