John P. Pryor, 42, of Moorestown, the dedicated leader of the University of Pennsylvania's trauma team and a decorated major in the Army Reserve who wrote eloquently about the painful parallels between battlefield deaths and urban homicides, was killed on Christmas by enemy fire in Iraq while serving as a combat surgeon.

Painful. Trauma surgeons are scarce among physicians as it is.
The more I read about him the more I realize just what we have lost with his death.
Yes, and he was one of the best. U of P had one of the best trauma units in the country.
a loss not just for the Army, but for his community and Pennsylvania. And a loss for America.
Only in a country as rich as ours can you find our best and brightest risking their lives doing work like this in places like that. No other country can come close to matching the service of America to the rest of the world. Not even close.

John Pryor was one of the finest. Always smiling in the hallways, just a wonderful, kind and caring surgeon. Another American hero has been lost.

It should also serve as an excruciating reminder that what our troops face in Iraq is still warfare, despite the DNC’s and Hussein's success in turning all attention from the WOT and Iraq to the mother of all October surprises: the very opportune economic trouble. We are going to have our work cut out for us not to allow Hussein to turn the WOT and Iraq into the Viet Nam they have also tried to manufacture over the past years. We are obligated to those who have fought and fallen.

I didn't hear the cars screech to a halt, but one of the trauma nurses did. He ran outside with two emergency department medics to find several people in a car, all of their clothes soaked with blood. The passengers were screaming for someone to help the young man in the front seat, who was unresponsive. The team threw the limp victim onto a gurney, one of several that stand waiting for these types of scenarios, which occur almost nightly at our trauma center.
Dr. John P Pryor (trauma care surgeon ) was Major in US Army Reserve Medical Corps. As end of Christmas Mass Service, A Mortar Killed Pryor when he was checking in on his patients. Dr Pryor, permanently attached at the University of Pennsylvania, left behind his wife and 3 children
