A battle for the soul of the Republican Party has spilled over into the contest for national committee chairman, as conservative members are prodding candidates to shift their way.
Now that the presidential campaign is over and the congressional leadership elections are settled, conservative activists are turning to the race for chairman as their next chance to shape the party.
Already, one candidate has come under fire for his association with a centrist organization, while a group of prominent RNC members is set to put others through an exhaustive test of their personal conservatism.
"It's important that the chairman be in line with the principles of the Republican Party as expressed in its platform, and that means the person is a conservative," said Indiana National Committeeman Jim Bopp, a prominent Republican lawyer. "It's important that the chairman wants to unite all strands of conservatism, because that's where we went wrong. We went wrong by not being faithful to our conservative principles."
Bopp, along with nearly half the voting members of the committee, has established the Conservative Steering Committee, which will meet with candidates Jan. 6 and hold a straw poll to determine whether each candidate is conservative enough to serve as chairman. The group is semi-exclusive, with some RNC members invited to join while others have had to ask to be let in.

Romney is a liberal, I dont want his friend as RNC chair as well..
Your “friend” was not talking issues, he was talking the same Romney hatred he spews on every thread that Romney is mentioned on. He is a Romney hater. If you want to wear blinders, feel free. But facts are facts. Look up EV’s track record of comments for proof. But something tells me you already know this. You are of his same ilk, I suspect. Ok, now YOU go back to the issues, and YOU can the Romney talk.
You might want to check Steele's record. Check his voting record and also check on some of the things the says. He is pretty much a RINO IMO.
**the Republican Party re-captured the Presidency with Ronaldus Magnus. **
After the debacle of the Carter Regime, a trained CHIMPANZEE could have beaten CARTER.
Therefore, the presidency of Ronald REAGAN was a DIVINE BLESSING, and a DIVINE INTERVENTION sent by GOD To straighten us out. I guess the USA did NOT want to listen.
So attack me now..real class.
No I don’t personally know “my friend” neither did I know his supposed alleged ROMNEY hatred record.
I DO however believe Romney a liberal (backed by his record, and statements).
I wouldn’t want him as our nom, nor controlling the RNC.
Thanks.
He's a soft-spoken gentlemen (as in the Ronald Reagan tradition) but no push over.
Conservative Republican to the core; faithful Christian husband and loving father; stood down corrupt democRATS attempting to steal elections as Sec'y of State for Ohio and would wonderfully represent all Republicans without selling out to the "mod" RINOs.
If there actually is serious fighting among all of the candidates for RNC Chair, then bring it on, please, and let all of them successfully resolve all of their problems asap! It really is much better to get everything that may be controversial out of the way asap, so that the best person and best candidate for RNC Chair really will be picked, I seriously hope and pray!

Anyone who would call themselves a conservative and still support the most liberal Governor in the history of the republic, and his takeover of the Republican Party, is already sick. I'm simply diagnosing the disease.
LLS
Just how do you think we got the RNC? They're elected by those attending conventions in each state. If you're not happy with who they elected, then you have to look at the grassroots for someone to blame.
Well I hate to admit it but I have no idea was elected from my district. I bet I’m not alone.
Do you know who are your national committee woman and national committee man from your state?
Grow up.
You gave us McCain and hence Obama. I don’t think you got much room to throw stones.
While it’s true that Romney is not an Alan Keyes clone in terms of defending conservative principles, it is equally true that he was not the most liberal Governor in U.S. history. Romney was a statist. He will do want the people want who elect. In Massachusetts, he was elected to be fiscally conservative and socially moderate. And guess what he was!
Gay marriage was forced on the people of Massachusetts and Romney strong armed the legislature to fight aganst it, and filed several lawsuits to prevent it. However, he did not take the Alan Keyes approach and override the legislature. The Alan Keyes approach, while from a different political perspective, is identical to what the gay mobs want to do in California, ignore the process outlined in their state’s constitution to right a wrong because the greater good is at risk.
I don’t pay much attention to what these guys say, more to what they do. With high echelon politicos(even ours) it’s not what they say but their actions that count.
Right. And you support him. That's about all I need to know.
What a load of bunk.
The legislature did nothing in response to Goodridge, which was the proper course. Romney, although nothing obligated him to do so whatsoever, used Goodridge as an excuse to institute gay "marriage." Thereby making a mockery of constitutional governance and fulfilling his campaign promises to the gay lobby in spades.
You are clueless about what happened in this particular case, and the constitutional duties of the respective branches of government generally. Which makes you a perfect Romneyite. Such ignorance is Mitt's stock in trade.
