flaming bs alert.
We did over 95% of our Christmas shopping this year on Amazon. We upgraded to a Prime membership and got free 2 day air shipping on everything.
We fought no crowds, no weather, no traffic, no delays, and paid the same prices if not less than if we went out to the local stores. Only one item was delayed, but it was due to FedEx, not Amazon.
You don’t have to worry about getting trampled to death at the local Walmart when you shop the internet from home.
I contributed to that. I did not want to fight the madness that is Christmas season and shopped from home in PJ’s. Most were to teens in the family with gift cards for song downloads.
Look for The Fool-Elect” to fed tax the poop outa Internet sales.
I call "bull$hit" on a "Depression". It may be a slowdown, but it's NOT a "depression". A "depression" would have men in coat and tie and wingtip shoes, standing in a mile long line, waiting for the "privilege" of digging ditches for $1 a day.
hell, I'm trying to get my house ready to sell AND I CAN'T GET ANYBODY TO HELP ME FIX IT UP!!! I'm offering double the normal rate to get the fuse box fixed, and do a little landscaping, and everybody I talk to is "too busy".
If we're in a "Depression" then why aren't there men lined up outside my house ready to do everything in their might to do some work for me?
A few more reasons I see we're not in a "depression"
-I still get rude or inattentive service at all fast-food places except Chik-Fil-A.
-I still have my part-time job at a fitness center...and I'm over 50 lbs. overweight.
It's probably just Depression in Blue States like Michigan and New York, where they voted heavily for Obama and are ruled by Labor Thugs and Socialist politicians.
That explains why my order hasn’t arrived yet.
I’m not surprised. We did just about all our shopping on line this year. I hate the malls. About the only time I stepped foot in our local mall was when our daughters needed some small gifts for their friends and teachers. Bath and Body Works and Claires are great for little gifts like that.
And I hear you about trying to get someone out to do work at your house. We wanted some trees taken down in our backyard and we called just about every tree company in the phone book. They were all too busy or told us they could be out in a couple weeks to give us an estimate. Hubby mentioned his dilema to his barber. Hooked him up with a preacher friend who has a part time gig doing tree work. Out the next day with his crew.
Chick-fil-a is a great business. Not only are their employees polite, they never seem to screw up your order and our local franchise gives back to the community in many ways. Not only that, they are closed on Sunday and it obviously doesn’t affect their profits. Good for them!
I even heard the WaPo has now requested a review copy (not necessarily good, but it shows that demand has required they address it).
A large part of this is Amazon, where my book has been under 1,000 most of the time it's been out (and a high, as far as I know, of #60 when I was on "Fox and Friends"---could have been higher, but I had no way of checking a computer at that time). "Patriot's History" got up to #35 on Amazon, "America's Victories," my last book, reached #30 and #1 on the history list.
Great! I added to their bottom line. I love Amazon. They are easy to deal with and quick to get the purchases to you.
You are a male. You hate shopping. The weather has been lousy for weeks. What are you going to do? You’re going to shop on-line, that’s what. I suspect more and more males prefer the computer to tramping through snow and cold (and distance) to acquire gifts.
We did some Amazon shopping this year because we’re in eastern Washington and have just been BURIED in snow. It’s been extremely difficult to get out to do any shopping, so we turned to online to fill in where needed.
I’m a bit curious as to whether the online sales figures (it’s not just Amazone that reported fair/good sales this holiday season) were partially boosted by the extreme winter weather that much of the country has had.
Also, our experience was not as good as some others here, not do to Amazon, but due to UPS. One of our main gifts got into our area on the 18th of December and has YET to be delivered. Now, I know they are dealing with the bad roads, too, but we’ve seen a number of UPS trucks on our street. You’d think they could manage to throw it on to one of them. If they don’t get it here today, I’ll probably have to call and just pick it up. And it’s not just me, but friends who had gifts that didn’t make it because of shipping delays.
Oh, and we have MORE snow coming for the weekend. Great!
I am buying more and more items besides books at Amazon.
The selections are great and often at very good prices. Amazon apparently leans on its partners to make sure they ship on time and monitor their shipments.
Does Amazon have any competition??
That's why Amazon.com survived the Dot-Com bubble and will be stronger than ever. Their masterful stroke of opening the MP3 download store has made them the first viable alternative to iTunes Music Store in terms of buying music. Besides, my current set of excellent computer speakers (the Klipsch Groove PM20) was bought from Amazon at a price way cheaper than I could get it at any local "brick and mortar" store.
