America’s passage of nuclear power (the nuclear "football" passes to Mr. Obama)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution / The Baltimore Sun ^ | December 26, 2008 | David Wood

Posted on 12/26/2008 12:55:13 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

It is a simple transfer of immense power.

On Jan. 20, an unobtrusive military officer carrying a small leather-bound metal briefcase will follow President George W. Bush up to Capitol Hill. After the inauguration ceremony, he will accompany President Barack Obama back to the White House.

Inside the attache, known as “the football,” are the codes to identify and authenticate a presidential order that could launch nuclear weapons and ignite a global holocaust.

Routine to most Americans, perhaps astonishing to much of the world, this peaceful passing of “the football” will propel Obama into a maelstrom. What awaits the new commander-in-chief is the responsibility of defending the United States —- and a nasty brew of nuclear-weapons problems that include the threat of terrorist attacks as well as potential new regional and superpower arms races. Iran and North Korea are believed to be rushing headlong toward building nuclear arsenals. And the main arms-reduction treaty with Russia expires next year.

Those known challenges arise from an unruly world thrown into deeper turmoil by the global financial crisis, a world in which nuclear technology spreads like wildfire and almost 10,000 nuclear weapons could be on alert at any given time.

The risk of nuclear war will grow during the next 20 years, U.S. intelligence officers concluded this month. Surprise, in this realm, is almost a given.

“It is immensely sobering when you are actually confronted with all the responsibility related to nuclear weapons,” said Matthew Bunn, a former White House nuclear-weapons adviser now at Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.

That will become clear with Obama’s first peek inside the ever-present briefcase.

Scared yet?

To me, Mr. Obama is a forty-something pretender, unlike some of our other presidents that took office in their forties (Teddy Roosevelt, John Kennedy, etc. ) Those men, for all their flaws, were serious, mature, battle-scarred veterans who would stand up to our enemies. I have no such faith in Mr. Obama. I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe he'll take one look and say, "Ahh, geez. What have I gotten myself into? I quit!"

Hussein wont do squat. The worst thing he could do is pass the codes to his religious brothers Hamas but he has to get past the military officer WITH the briefcase. And that guy is probably puking right this second just thinking at his F’d up 4-year future with Big Ears.

Dereliction of Duty
By Mary Walsh
Human Events | April 2, 2003

ARTICLE SNIPPET:
As the carrier of the nuclear football, Patterson was astounded that Clinton repeatedly said on the campaign trail no American children would have to go to sleep with nuclear missiles pointed at them. Such a statement was patently untrue. Conversations overheard in the car most often did not revolve around foreign policy issues but subpoenas, lawyers and executive privilege. They had priorities and national security was not one of them.

The nuclear football goes everywhere with the President. Several days after testifying in the Paula Jones deposition, Patterson went to exchange the codes for the football with the president only to find that he didn’t have them. “I don’t have mine on me. I’ll track it down, guys, and get back to you.” They turned the White House upside down and still didn’t find them.”

“‘Nuclear Football’ Left Behind When Clinton Departs Summit”
April 25, 1999 in print edition A-22

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “President Clinton departed the NATO summit in such haste Saturday that he left behind perhaps the most important piece of luggage in the world–the “nuclear football.”

The president’s military aide, who constantly shadows Clinton and carries the briefcase containing U.S. nuclear launch codes, was mistakenly left at the International Trade Center when Clinton’s motorcade sped off 45 minutes early and without notice.”

...Just think, it is being passed on to an admitted Cocaine user. He’s a pretender alright. Just like all the other RATS before him, he is caudled by the leftist news media until America as we know her is almost destroyed and then the adults will come back to save ‘her’.

God Bless America... Let’s all pray for her.
