Employees of McClatchy publishing in Iraq were in an unually good mood recently. The occasion was the aftermath of the Iraqi journalist who tossed his shoes at President Bush at a press conference in Baghdad as you can see in these quotes from Inside Iraq, a blog for McClatchy journalists working in that country:
Some of the guys were happy and they were talking about the bravery of the journalist who threw his shoes at the American president. When I tried to explain my opinion, I was trying to tell the guys that I don't agree with the way the journalist behaved, but I was attacked by them. One of them said "come on Laith, Bush destroyed Iraq". Another said "he deserves more" while a third one said "he is an occupier." I tried to tell to tell they guys that this is an inslut for Maliki.
The "Shoe heard round the world" was an important symbolic event. I felt his action was appropriate and restrained considering the circumstances.
I applauded this act. I don't care that it is rude. Why are we concerned about etiquette when a country was destroyed? Did Bush ever apologize to the Iraqis for the hundreds of thousands of dead? Bush is an occupier, a clown pretending to be a hero, so enclosed in his own little self-certain world he probably was surprised an Iraqi could be that angry. I am not surprised. I am only surprised such a thing did not happen earlier.

PING!
Did Saddam apologize to the Iraqis he killed, tortured, and raped?
It's just a story. no one even knows if any Iriqis have been killed unless they were there and watched it happen. Sure can't depend on the press enough to tell us the truth ~ and here's the McClatchy crowd just stirring it and stirring it.
95% drop eh? Sounds good.
That figure is grossly, grossly overinflated.
bravery would be throwing a shoe at saddam knowing the consequences
it doesnt take much bravery to throw a show at bush
Infants cheering the infantile antics of one of their own.
Whatever happened to ideas and persuasion? Sorry the MSM can’t be bothered.
I am sorry to admit that I once worked for McClatchy in California. What a bunch of weasels. They are now getting what they deserve.
ping
Wrong. 99% drop.
bump
If you think there were no consequences, you are quite naive.
He’s not in US custody, remember.
newsbusters is getting as bad as the loons they audit. The comments at the bottom are not from McClatchy folks...they are others, including non-journalists. Only a portion of what newsbusters cited was in the post.
Unfortunately this article plainly reveals the sorry, worthless trash that has been produced by “journalism” schools for the past four decades. Journalism majors, sociology majors and education (with some extremely dedicated exceptions) majors are the bottom of the academic barrel.
Is this what John Lennon meant when he said “Instant Karma’s gonna get you?”
Did Iraq ever say thanks for being freed from the rule of a brutal dictactor?
Man... why can’t strangers hand me a Dokkie Bak of Kobe Beef! Even if they had eaten on it already...
While two wrongs don’t make a right, it’s interesting to consider the long history of McClathcy newspapers, when you think about how McClatchy himself was jailed for publishing stories that were embarassing to politicians.
I don’t think the current crowd is of the same caliber.
Comment at top (first comment) was from a McClatchy journalist talking about other McClatchy journalists journalists at the office. So they WERE cheering for the shoe tosser.
