This was the emotional moment that President-elect Barack Obama scattered his grandmother's ashes into the sea.

With half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng by his side, Mr Obama bid his final farewell to the woman he called the rock of his family at the Hawaiian beauty spot. Barefoot and wearing sunglasses, Mr Obama embraced his half-sister as they paid their last respects to Madelyn Dunham, who died of cancer, aged 86, just two days before he won the election.

we should all pray Mr. Obama proves us wrong and is a successful president.

I pray he is an unsuccessful President.

Where is Michelle-Omarosa? Wouldn’t this have been a great photo-op for the supportive and sensitive future First Lady? Was she making the shape of a cross out of ‘convenient’ rocks on a beach somewhere?

Obama is inheriting a mess.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving fellow.

Politics aside, we should hope he is successful in addressing the major issues -- economic and security related. Because, if he fails, we all will suffer.

No, we want abject failure.

addressing the major issues? He "addresses" issues based on his political beliefs and his political goals. If he achieves his goals, then we will all suffer.

I’d think he’d be happy. After all, she was a “typical white person”: racist, sexist, homophobic bigot right?

The world is a better place without people like us...right?

That link was for Southeast. Searched but did not see similar stuff for Hawaii. Could be same rules but not sure.

Doesn't "jumping into" someone's arms usually indicate joy?

Now, "falling into" someone's arms may be sadness...but not "jumping."

Looks like michelle's havin' a "WHOOPIE!" moment.

You are right, I did not notice the southeast region.

Here is North Pacific and Alaska. Didn’t Hawaii specific.

Cremated remains can be buried in water of any depth as long as you are at least three nautical miles from land. If the urn or container holding the cremated remains will not readily decompose in the ocean, you may not dispose of it in the ocean; it must be properly disposed of on land

Same regulation for the 3 miles though.

It is the same in region 9.

Disposal location and measures - Cremated remains

Alaska and the Pacific Northwest (region 10) add that "If the urn or container holding the cremated remains will not readily decompose in the ocean, you may not dispose of it in the ocean; it must be properly disposed of on land" ...

Obama was, not suprisingly, NOT my Presidential choice.
Even McCain was my much-less-than-optimal candidate that I voted
for (only because he did throw the dice with Palin?).

But I must admit that if I'd had as dis-jointed a life as Obama,
with a disappearing father, a mother that moves a kid around the
planet at the drop of the hat...
no telling what sort of mess I would have ended up in that situation.

I don't want a failed President.
I'm honest with colleagues about my POV and, to my suprise,
most agree that Obama is an "on the edge" type of person.
Even though they enthusiastically voted for him!

reminds me of how W used to “clear brush” for the cameras

To be fair, Reagan was photographed the same way on his ranch. White House PR, to show a healthy energetic man in charge.

There would be no need to exhume Ms. Dunham’s body or test her DNA. There seems to be no question that Barack Heussein Obama, Jr. is the son of Stanley Ann Dunham and that Stanley Ann was Madeline’s daughter.

The only questions about Obama’s eligibility for POTUS relate to his citizenship at birth and a)where his mother was at the time of his birth and b) his father’s citizenship. It has nothing to do with his maternal grandmother.

Yes, and SHE may know those answers and was silenced, like Obama’s family in Kenya. But we cannot tell if she was silenced (if she was) if she had a premature death caused by some substance, we will never know.

If the urn or container holding the cremated remains will not readily decompose in the ocean, you may not dispose of it in the ocean; it must be properly disposed of on land.

Another example of the insane stupidity of government.

If you drop the urn in the ocean and don't tell them, what of it? If they hear about it and want to prosecute you, where's the evidence? Airliners regularly jettison excess fuel and bathroom waste over the ocean, yet dropping a small urn is a giant no-no?

As Churchill once warned: "If you have ten-thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law."

Um, he’s a proven perjurer, lying on his Illinois application to the bar, and he’s posted a forged COLB on the Internet. And that ius porbably merely the very tip of a spear of criminality extending into fraud to enter college, obtain tuition/room and board, and passports.

” Yeah, did you see the jump in the air moment of Michelle jumping into Zero’s arms?

Nice funeral moment.”

Un..freaking..believable.

Michelle looked like she was jumping into a mosh pit at some rock concert.
After she had a few.
The sunglasses flying off and the legs in the air are not what one normally expects to see at a solemn occasion.
Nevermind from a future First Lady.
Imagine these two at the next State funeral.
Sarah Palin field dresses an elk with more dignity and class than the Obama’s showed at Granny’s memorial.
I suppose , however ,that we should be grateful that while Barry was shoeless,
he wasn’t topless for the ceremony.
