The problem is that the Army isn’t big enough to hold more than a few large cities. And in the case of really severe internal civil strife the troops would have to worry about revenge being taken upon their own family members. I believe many would desert rather than fire on US citizens at the behest of a self-appointed dictator.
It’s a mistake to grant very much competence to the evil fools who would try to use the Army this way. All bets are off in this situation. Think about it. Is a US Soldier ready to face several million armed citizens? Even with a citizenry armed “only” with hunting rifles I’m afraid it wouldn’t be the slam dunk some psychopathic politician might think it would be.

The US Soldier takes an oath to defend the Constitution. The majority of the military is made up of conservatives that understand what that means as opposed to the average boneheaded citizen.
This isn't a spring of this year event, it will take a year in the pressure cooker that will be 2009.
The question is what would be the spark for “millions” of Americans? Think about it seriously. There might be economic riots in cities like LA, Detroit, etc., but as pointed out up thread the National Guard would handle those.
A further decline in the economic situation during 2009, sporadic riots by the extrimis of the left, and 0bama declares martial law in mid-2010. Thereby tossing the Constitution out the door and preventing the elections to toss the corrupt Congress in 2010, preventing impeachment proceedings to the One...
Now I know what my lines are in the sand and most likely they are the same as many other violence as a last resort Americans. Come to terms with what stage is being set to take place. Fascism needs violence to facilitate its imposition.
Almost a year ago I said 0bama would bring this situation to fruition. Mussolini rose on similar circumstances and 0bama has admitted he is a ‘progressive pragmatist,’ so was Mussolini. I was scoffed at then when I noted it, but as things continue to align in that direction it is amazing the level of denial of what is happening.

I have asked myself this same question a million times. There are 275-300 million weapons held by American citizens. I personally don't know a single person that has only one gun, therefore there isn't that many armed households. How many of us would be willing to get killed and leave their wives and children to who knows what fate at the hands of 0bama’s Crypt/Blood/Black Panther “Civilian Defense Forces”?
The military also has a large population of black soldiers who blindly voted for the 0ne and would cast their loyalties to the black cause. In my opinion, we have trained and armed a large force that will be used against us to maintain “civil order” on the orders of ‘their’ President. What greater dream is there for the angry black man to finally, and in his view, legally take up arms against ‘whitey’ and expel all that hatred that has been brewing for 400 years?
Since we aren't organized, or as 0bama has promised to his soon to be Civilian Defense Forces ‘equally equipped as the military’, then we are doomed and he knows that. They will take us one house at a time converging on us with a hundred plus of his so-called “troops”.
Don't think that we won't fight and fight hard when the alternative is forced enslavement and chains.
The original purpose and intent of the 2nd Amendment is soon to become more evident than ever. God bless our founders.
