Tis the season of empty gestures! Inaugural pastor Rick Warren rewrote his website so it no longer says gays are poison to his congregation. In fact a whole long lecture about gays was deleted.
Here's the old content, via AmericaBlog, via Dave Winer, where Warren explains why gays can't join his church:
This was from a website section called "Small Group Questions About Saddleback Church." The above is part of an answer to the question "What does the Bible say about homosexuality?" Also part of the answer, in the original, was a description of homosexuality as "an enormous sin" and a comparison of being gay to being alcoholic.
Another question encouraged people to tithe to the church even while paying off credit card debts. 10 percent! "The Bible is very clear about believers giving the first 10 percent to the Lord."
Now that Warren has become an embarrassment to the president-elect, everything, the whole stupid section, is gone. Trying to visit the page will either get you a database error or redirected here. Because Warren now realizes his gay-bashing is a manifestation of the vile sin of bigotry and intolerance.
Ha ha, just kidding, he's temporarily shunning his true beliefs to be on television in front of the whole world and gain popularity, sort of like an instrument of the devil, or maybe in this case it's God, or just Rahm Emanuel dressed as an angry, demanding, freak-fingered demon, haunting his bedroom.
Well put.
If you single out one group, you’ve got a scapegoat...and that makes for good press, but not a very welcoming and humble attitude.
I dont’ trust this guy. as much as he gives to charity, he still keeps a lot, and maybe its not the money...but the fame that ego demands.
Get ready. You're about to be deluged with people who will say that you're promoting a sinful lifestyle, that you're in cahoots with the devil, and that Rick Warren is a pagan and anyone who reads his books is a false Christian.
And if you mention C.S. Lewis, be prepared for commenters to bombard you with the "fact" that the Narnia books were Satanically inspired and that Lewis was not a Christian but rather worshipped the sun.
Quit confusing people with the facts. It's obvious that Rick Warren is Satan incarnate and that he "redesigned" his website so that his church can host a Mardi Gras every year that makes New Orleans look like a Southern Baptist Sunday School picnic.
Oh, and if you've ever read any of Rick Warren's books you're going straight to hell. Just thought you might like to know.
I will not be going out on a limb even a teeny tiny bit to point out that they must be gotten rid of to make way for Mitt Romney on FR. It has been that way here for two years now.
hit the nail on the head...there is no future in becoming desensitized to sin
I just wish a pastor can pray without the thousands preying and mismanaging his ever word. To me, it shows the times we live it, latter days, all the way.Just as a positive note, I've never read Warren's book, but I've seen the folks at his church and met he and his wife and have NO bad things to say...and I never will, they're good folks...I just have no idea where he's been leading his flock. I loved his debate at Saddleback...showed me the morals and values of Abu Hussein and our Military hero mccain.
Your post makes no sense in light of my previous comments. How many times have you seen a person come into a church and proudly boast of being an adulterer, fornicator, heretic, etc, and then demand that the church not consider them sinners? Sure, churches are full of sinners. Homosexuals are singled out because they single themselves out. No adulterer/fornicator/heretic, etc is going to draw attention to himself the way gays do. The problem with homosexuals is not that they sin. It is that they demand that their sin not be considered sin. I think you know this, but are being deliberately obtuse.
Warren does not need to "single out" the other sinners you mention. Those sinners sit in his church with their heads hung low in shame, not prancing about demanding attention and validation like the homosexuals.
Hey, ya know, I suppose you're right.
Wow, you defend Warren and now are deflecting Obamas stance on infanticide? We are told to listen and follow the word of God, not the word of Warren. I will do the first, while you do the latter.
Warren preaches the word of God. Look at his fruits and then look at your own unfounded hatred.
But, it doesnt really surprise me, seeing that its Rick Warren... :-)
Warren's stance on homosexuality is still present on his website.
Not that facts matter to you Warren-bashers... :-)
And you're bringing ignorance and unfounded gossip into the Christian church.
Check the facts, dude -- you have no idea what you're talking about.
Cecily, exactly what has Warren done that you call him a false teacher, compromiser, and bad shepherd? Come on, you're so bright -- give me an answer.
Check up the word "slanderer" in your Bible. Jesus was against it.

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
From the looks of the commenters on this thread, I don't think they would have approved of Jesus either. After all, he was criticized for associating with sinners.
God bless you, Theo -- you're one of the few rational voices on this thread.
Jesus was criticized for associating with sinners and tax collectors. Tax collectors worked for the Romans, who were the enemy of the Jews. Are you saying that Jesus was wrong?
It's interesting how many people on this thread are behaving exactly like those who criticized Jesus.
I happen to know some of the people who brought "Jane Roe" to Christ. She was an abortion activist and was most definitely "working for the enemy." Yet thoughtful Christians befriended her and led her to Christ.
Very nice. You had me fooled until I actually read the picture.
Is it a sin to have homosexual feelings or is the sin to act upon those feelings?
You DO know the difference between attending a church and being a member of it do you not?
