Obama’s science appointees called a team of all-stars (Mega-Barf Alert)
Christian Science Monitor ^ | Dec. 21, 2008 | Peter N. Spotts

Accomplished and outspoken, they’re likely to tackle climate change head-on.

Call it the “green team” or the “dream team.” Either way, President-elect Barack Obama’s choices to fill top science and environment-related posts in his new administration represent a remarkable assembly of talent.

With his picks well in hand, Mr. Obama is positioned to reverse what many see as eight years of sluggish action in the US and internationally on global warming. The picks also boost the prospects for wider use and further development of alternative energy sources. And the nominees – particularly those who come directly out of the science community – are expected to be strong advocates for erasing political interference with government research.

Many groups have sent the transition team a list of actions Obama could take to achieve the goals during the first 100 days, most of which could be accomplished by executive order.

“In terms of appointing top scientists to key agency positions, we haven’t seen the caliber of scientists we’re seeing now,” says Joshua Reichert, managing director of the Pew Environment Group. “Probably more important, we haven’t seen such highly respected scientists who also have been outspoken conservation advocates.

You fail to realize the power of the people.

Today in London the top global warming nutcase said he is going to allow more coal power plants to be built. Seems it is really cold in England these days, and every power company is warning about not enough to go around unless more generating units are built. How about we start early -- Remember when you used to have electricity 24/7

Like with Amnesty, words mean things -- Illegal aliens, just stealing the jobs Americans used to have.

And with golf cart sized cars, like the one they have parked at the local library on the steps -- You can build Volgas, but will anybody actually buy a Volga. As the old Soviet Union found, the answer is NO.

The caption under Holdren's picture is classic liberal newspeak:

"Harvard professor John Holdren, nominated this weekend, was one of the first scientists to speak out about the Bush administration’s political interference with science."

Despite historical climate changes and current global cooling evidence to the contrary, clowns like this Holdren dissembler of liberal Anthropogenic Global Warming orthodoxy, cite their utterly failed Garbage-IN/Garbage-Out computer models in order to push Big Government and oppress freedom.

While the rest of us were going about our daily lives, Gore and his acolytes initiated promoting this AGW lunacy. It is up to them to scientifically prove it. They can't, so they resort to bullying to impose this absurdity. They are the ones who are perverting science for political (and selective financial) gain, proposing Draconian measures for the rest of us.

With AGW as a precedent, a new Dark Age looms where superstition prevails.

Perfectly stated.

Considering the globe has been cooling for ten years, how has this been a bad thing?

The words “Executive Order” scare the hell out of me!

Get ready for the Nightmare on Main street we have been warning about for so long.

It will be mind boggling, senseless mandate after senseless mandate. And the Legislature will make sure the revenue keeps on pouring in to feed this beast.

If some of the reference in this thread is true then apparently Dr Holdren really is NOT accomplished at all.

I will tell you that having worked at Harvard (biolab) briefly years ago, and knowing graduates, arrogance IS the culture. To the point of nausea.

Kind of like Barack Obama I guess, although apparently that is exactly what the CFR (who determine the President) is looking for.

"Obama’s science appointees called a team of all-stars (Mega-Barf Alert)"

"Science advisor Holdren is best known for three papers about the “population bomb”. The rest of what he has done in his career, other than propagandize human effects on planet earth, is zilch"

"Laughable. Y’all watch what that means for mid term elections not to mention the next presidential election. Ha ha ha. Bring it ON, as Rush likes to say."

When he was a much younger faculty member, John Holdren recruited me to be one of his graduate students. I didn't bite. He was a clean energy pimp back then, living off government grants, and nothing has changed. He's not really very smart; that's why he stuck with policy rather than real research. He does have some dangerous notions; earlier in the year he publicly advocated that the USA submit to a UN tax to help fund third world priorities, including deforestation and ensuring that the planet stays carbon neutral. Google it and you'll find what idiot Holdren really things.

He even looks like a faculty weenie.

That said, Gents, stop your apoplexy. Science advisory boards have really little influence. The reason the selections are so public is that Obama took a lot of heat for his cabinet positions so these selections basically amount to throwing a bone to the fired-up lefties.

And Bergmeid, you're right. As long as we fight hard, Obama will not succeed. And his coattails were huge. Those voters will not show up in 2010. The House at least will be in GOP hands in 2 years.

“In terms of appointing top scientists to key agency positions, we haven’t seen the caliber of scientists we’re seeing now,”

There is a reason for that.....

.....These mad professor types usually are not attached to the real world. Decisions based exclusively on their advice usually are wrong because common sense is not in the picture.

How is it that the hard sciences have been overtaken by kooks? Scientists used to be someone you could look up to when I was growing up.

WTH?

So I suppose that this is an example of what scientists voted for because creationists gave the Republican party and conservativism a bad name?

They voted for a liberal because it would be good for science?

Well, sure.

Sarah Palin, remember when the brilliant hollyweirdo Matt Damon wanted to know if Sarah believed the earth was only 10,000 years old and man walked with dinosaurs...???

That was his primary concern on rather or not she was “qualified” to be veep.

I mean nevermind liberals are so arrogant they think man has control over the weather.

I do recall the unhinged saying that Dick Cheney had a weathergun on a sub under the gulf of mexico and created Katrina to hurt all the peeps.

Or that they support the failed NEA and all it entails.

Bubba Clinton in a speech was blabbering about the poor and war and attacks on science...

I thought for a minute that he was talking about the issue with stem cells but that wasn’t it. Liberals and conservatives alike are somewhat split on that issue...

Nope.

It was about us knuckle-dragging bible thumping creationists like Sarah Palin that Bubba (or it might have been Biden?) was talking about.

In the liberal un-hinged world if you believe in God you hate science.

If you beleive in creation, then you’re essentially a scientific anti-christ.

So, naturally they’ll rail on and on about global warming. And they’ll pander to the messiah for money for their scientific endeavors...like the ones you read about on

www.cagw.org

...millions and millions of dollars spent on studying the reproduction of trout.

I love trout, and I’m all for them reproducing. But even us non-genius people understand it’s not about the trout.

Much less the science of the trout.

And the amazing amounts of money, which is certainly criminal by John Edwards own 2 America’s standards!

For all the squealing about religion being in science these insecure lunatics would be much better served by demanding that politics be removed from science. This is the evil that will destroy science far faster than a few believers wishing to teach their children, pretty much like they were taught in science class...you know way back when before the NEA killed our public schools.

And it won’t be long before one of them comes along pretending like the godless scientific ideology is the neutral conservative position too.

Making even Josef Goebbels blush.

Correction- it’s not obama’s ‘science team’ it’s rather obama’s propoganda team!!!

Al gore just fired a prominent scientist because the scientist stated that he no longer buys into the hype about global warming- Golly- htere’s some objective science for ya!

We’re headed down a VERY BAAAAAD Road with all this global wamring crap- and now, Obama has the full attention of another dolt that buys into the ‘man caused’ global wamring CRAP- so you can bet Gore is goign to ram home his global warming agenda full steam ahead without any impeeding scientific FACTS that CLEARLY show global warmign to be a purely natural cyclical event that has occured many many times over hte years, getting in the way. we are ALL going to pay very dearly for what amounts to one of the biggest scams EVER.
