Job opportunities declining, perceived anti-immigrant sentiment named causes
Many Mexicans increasingly feel unwelcome in Colorado because of a perceived anti-immigrant sentiment, and some are looking back home for opportunities as the economy here sours, Denvers Mexican consul general says.
What Ive found is that in our communities, with few exceptions, theres a sense that the state is not friendly toward immigrants, that they dont feel welcomed and that they encounter this feeling of, I dont like you but I need you, Eduardo Arnal said during a recent interview in Spanish.
Arnal said that in his travels around Colorado people tell him about losing their jobs as the states major employers the construction and service industries have seen a decline.
We dont have statistics, but I can tell you with certainty that Mexicans are abandoning Colorado, he said. And for a variety of reasons, one being that they are not able to find jobs, theyre looking for other places and some even considering returning to Mexico definitely. Added to that is the fact that many dont consider the state a friendly place for immigrants.
The U.S. Census suggests a drop, too. According to its data, there were an estimated 240,754 Mexicans in Colorado in 2005. That number increased in 2006 to 254,844 but fell to an estimated 243,253 in 2007.
Arnal, a former Mexican congressman and member of President Felipe Calderons transition team, was named Denvers consul general in August 2007. His office serves Colorado, and he supervises consulates in Wyoming, Utah, Montana, Nebraska, Idaho, South Dakota and North Dakota.
To date, Arnal has visited 59 of the states 64 counties. It is partly from those visits, aimed at establishing ties with local law enforcement and businesses, that he has drawn his own conclusions about the feelings of Mexican immigrants.

Hasta la pasta, campesinos. Let your government pay your way for now on.
Thank you. Sentiment is anti “illegal” NOT legal.
The Hispanic community in Denver remains strong and is more conservative than some would wish us to believe.
Mexicans dont feel welcomed in Colorado?
Well hells bells, come on down to Florida all you illegals.
Even though you guys are coming out of the cracks everywhere, no one seems to do a damn thing about illegals here. Just drive though Indiantown, Belle Glades, Pahokee, LaBelle and so many others and see countless illeglas and the G.D. feds do nothing about it.
Oddy oats, Uhmeego!
gracias por el dinero, adiós
(thank you for the money, goodbye)
Does the word ILLEGAL still exist in the English language?

Yes. Some firearms are illegal. ;0)
It wouldn’t be the new law that requires employers to have an affirmation form on file that states they verified all documents that the I-9 requires and physically looked at these required documents.
They are now auditing the documents to make sure employers are complying with the law.
Colorado went one step further, they require the employer to match the SSN to ensure the person being hired is using their own Social security number.
A sample of Colorado SSNs reported to the Department of Labor showed a record number of infants employed by large companies.
I know that’s right. My community is trying but the government is not helping any. And FB (Farmers Branch) is in lawsuit city right now trying to keep illegals from renting. They just keep coming by the droves and pretty boy (Rick Perry) is doing nothing except working on the highway to hell deal.
