Cheney: Palin no lock to be GOP nominee in 2012
AP ^ | 21 Dec 2008 | AP

Vice President Dick Cheney says he's confident Republicans will rebound from this year's election defeats. But he doesn't know if Sarah Palin will be the candidate to lead the comeback.

Cheney said the Alaska governor who was John McCain's running mate this year is no lock to be the Republican nominee for president in 2012. Cheney says Palin will have to "earn it," just like anybody else would.

Besides capturing the White House, Democrats widened their majorities in the House and Senate in this year's elections.

Cheney likens the current political cycle to the 1970s, when Republicans lost the White House following the Watergate scandal. Republican Ronald Reagan won the presidency in 1980, after just a single term for Democrat Jimmy Carter.

AP trying hard to make a reasonable remark look like another attack on Palin.

A Captain Obvious statement, but nonetheless true.

No one should be a lock at this point. If they were, we wouldn’t even have to bother voting.

Yes, pathetic. If nothing else, it’s obvious whom the left wing press still fears. McCain is already their good friend again, but they’ll keep smearing Sarah for the next four years, every chance they get.

This is a stupid article for AP to even write. Unless one is an incumbent president or a popular vice president to a president who will not run for reelection, there is never any guarantee even one year out who will win the nomination.

Cheney states the obvious, the MSM runs with a misleading headline.

Well of course no one is a lock for the nomination yet. Geez.

Let’s see if we make it through 4 years of the Obamination.

Earn it? I guess Obama earned it? Palin should be a running mate for someone. Give her the chance to experience DC and see if she really wants to be President.

Dick, she has been, and is earning it, as a Governor, a candidate, and a leader who in Goergia, showed how she can influence the vote for other GOP candidates.

I like Cheney’s approach. No point in being overconfident at this time. I’m sure Palin will pull through. It is better to prove to the masses how weak the other candidates are compared to Sarah. Only way to do is to expose them. Then all the people will “beg Sarah to bring the change to its original form”.

Of course they are. 2012 is 4 years away, no one knows what can happen in that time. And no one is a lock this far out. Not to mention the media's obsession with Gov. Palin is far into the deranged category. Nothing wrong with efforts to calm that obsession.

“Palin no lock to be GOP nominee in 2012”

Yea, no kidding. Quite a few so called conservatives don’t even support her.

Obama will be a one term president.

I couldn't disagree more.

The economic meltdown is his PERFECT ALIBI for four years.

He can always say (with the enthusiastic agreement by the MSM),,,

"LOOK AT THE UNBELIEVABLE ECONOMIC MESS I INHERITED"!!

That's a blanket excuse and a 'free-pass' that any politician could only dream of in their wildest dreams.

What we have to is make damn sure our next Presidential candidate is not chosen for us by a few insignificant open primary states.

Wasn’t John McCain raked over the coals here last week for saying essentially the same thing as Cheney?
