I think it’s sad to be so miserable.

And why are they miserable? They get paid great, great insurance and benefits.

So, about your claims that UAW workers don’t do this....

Not too surprised. My ex was UAW back in the 70’s (Budd Co in Indiana), they got away with a ridiculous amount of stuff. I worked Irish pubs in NYC for a few years back in the late 70’s early 80’s, had plenty of union guys doing the pitcher or three lunch. They didn’t take a real long lunch though, that was later in the afternoon that they hung around. I don’t figure times have changed too much.

I was an autoworker for GM in SoCal years ago. We would drink before work, during lunch and for hours after work. All in the parking lot.

Those were the days.

I don’t know too many people that would enjoy sitting around day after day getting drunk, what kind of life is that?

Life of the Deltas getting their soma ration. (See Aldous Huxley)

Nothing new here I had a buddy who’s uncle was a union big wig and got him a job.The job he got was mopping the floors and cleaning this was 6 years ago for $26.00 an hr not bad work if you can get it.He told me that everyday at the same time his crew of guys would leave and go to the bar for hours then go back and work he told me at the time it was unreal the way the system worked. Not once during time did anyone for his bosses or anyone from ford say one word to stop them.

Some, not all, absolutely do this. It’s very widespread.

Gee, wonder why the cops to make spot checks like in other places. That last guy that “forgot his pager” sounded snockered to me, what a disgrace. No way a person can drink for 1 to 4 hours and not be DWI, much less of course, ripping off the company—oh, I forgot, UAW POLICY, got it.

If they’re being paid and not working, it’s fraud. Is Ford Corporate Security aware of this?

“Man .....I wish I had a job like that.”

Doubt it. Try mining, high steel or tower maintenance, other.

I’m not condoning it, but the saying goes that you aren’t paid for what you do, it’s for what you put up with.

It is a shame that 95% of the the UAW give the other 5% a bad name.

That's why I stick with Nissan. Good, quality cars made by honest Americans in places like Tennessee and Mississippi. And none of them go boozing for lunch either. Not that Nissan would tolerate it.

That's why companies like Nissan and Toyota make billions of dollars selling cars while un-American companies like Ford and GM lose billions.

I’m more pissed Bush didn’t defend himself for eight years when it mattered, and it would have had a positive effect on the nation.

It definitely explains some of the things I’ve seen with Ford transmissions. :P

Doesn’t matter; the UAW contract says they can’t be fired. The worst that will happen is a stern talking to with no real consequences for repeat offenses.
