In a ruling crucial to the disputed U.S. Senate election, the Minnesota Supreme Court Thursday rejected an attempt by incumbent Norm Coleman to block the state Canvassing Board from counting improperly rejected absentee ballots.
However, the court ruled that the campaigns of Coleman and Democrat Al Franken, along with Secretary of State Mark Ritchie and vote canvassing boards establish a uniform standard for identifying and counting such absentee ballots. The court said they should then be added to the tally.
As many as 1,600 absentee ballots may have been improperly rejected by local elections officials.

Coleman can appeal all he wants, the SCOTUS will not hear the case.
I can’t think of a single reason why they should.
It’s still a Republican majority Supreme Court. I can see them finding for Coleman to prevent one-party Democrat rule.
As I have noted on political threads going back to September, after the Washington Governors race when our winning guy lost to fraud, republican candidates who win by a narrow margin should immediately concede as the dems will cheat till they win and we will do noting to stop them that matters. Save the money.
Have faith. First the next battle will be to agree on universal standards for each county. After that, then the ballots can be viewed.
Even if it nets 100 for Franken and I’m not convinced it will, he loses.
And then we can all sing to Frankenpuss, “I’m a loser baby, so why don’t ya kill me.”
:)
It's not the Supreme Courts job, State or Federal, to prevent one-party rule
Courts are supposed to non partisan, ruling to prevent one-party rule would fly in the face of their stated principles
I don't think that will happen.
They already ruled on universal standards for each county because they want the same standards used to count the improperly rejected ballots in each local so the already counted ballots and the newly approved ballots are counted by the same standard by each official.
To impose a statewide standard would throw into question how all the ballots where counted.
That's not what they said. They want valid absentee ballots counted, but it's up to the canvassing board and *both* the candidates to come up with a uniform standard for counting them.
Prediction: Franken and Coleman will not be able to agree on a standard, and they all head back to court again.
True, only valid ballots will be counted, which I improperly assumed that was obvious.
the canvassing board and *both* the candidates to come up with a uniform standard for counting them.
Once the ballots are opened, it should be fairly obvious which ballots are legit or bogus. Remember none of these have been seen so the standard they already are using should be used.
Prediction: Franklen wins hands down because dem voters are typically idiots that can't fill out a ballot properly and most of the rejected ones from are illiterate, brain dead liberal
Personally, if you can't properly fill out a simple envelope and the ballot, you probably shouldn't be allowed to vote.
Supposedly, Franken’s people CALLED voters to ask about their votes. I assume these were absentee, as the name etc are on those.
Franken seeks names of rejected voters
SENATE RECOUNT: Franken sues for lists of voters whose absentee ballots were disqualified.

His stated reason? An old woman’s was rejected cause she had a stroke and sigs didnt match...which his team backtracked on after state said NOT TRUE. This is so rotten and dirty. Reminds me why I voted Republican last 3 elections, and will continue to do so.
Appears you are right and suddenly there is no time for a universal fair standard.
I’m feeling kinda ill about this now.
If Franken gets it, you can truly say that you are represented in the Senate by a genuine clown. Who'd have thought it? At least Arnold and Ronnie were leading men before they went into politics. Who was the other Calif. senator who was an actor? He was a D .... can't remember. Anyway, he was a dramatic actor as well.
Welladay. Sorry, guys, that you have to go through this.
George Murphy, a Hollywood actor/singer/dancer, was a Republican U.S. Senator from 1965 to 1971.
Coleman’s toast. The sorry state of Minnesota just elected a stupid, failed, ignorant, idiot, liberal talk show host and former so called comedian. That state is about as dumb as Illinois. They run about one, two with WA state a close third with Kaliforniastan and NJ coming on fast. Taxsachuttus holds an award all its own.
Making stuff up as they go along.
They’ll keep counting until the RAT wins. I knew this election would get stolen.
He’s won. It’s over.
Coleman has lost.
Shocking turn of events......looked great even two days ago.
We also have Amy Klobuchar. So we'd be represented by two. This flat out sucks.
I will eat a fly if the SCOTUS takes the case. They will NEVER take the case.
I’m reminded of the phrase, “All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”
Put the blame where it belongs, the people of Minnesota. Enjoy the next SIX years of the little, red clown!
