JUNEAU, Alaska, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said she would refuse a $25,000 pay raise during her current term as Alaska governor.
A state commission recommended boosting the governor's pay to $150,000 from $125,000.
The five-member state Officers Compensation Commission, created by the state Legislature, also said legislators needed more money, along with the lieutenant governor and government department heads, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
If the commission pushes ahead with a pay raise, Palin will not accept the money, spokesman Bill McAllister said.
"Her view is, it's just not appropriate to accept a pay raise in the middle of the term," he told the newspaper.
Palin's term ends in 2010.
Palin makes 46 percent more than her most recent predecessor, Frank Murkowski, but is the 24th-lowest paid governor, the commission said.
you can say that again..last time I was there, in fairbanks, the $ menu at mickey d’s was $1.50 and the price at KFC for 2 pieces of dark meat, a biscuit and a small side was $9.95..
on the other hand, at the boston sports bar, I could get spaghetti for $13.95 and it was two meals, and the moose drool beer was $5 for 32 ounces..
“she is not corrupt, and she doesnt need some stupid pay raise to define her”
And she is not bought and paid for and can’t be bought and paid for by the establishment.
Amen!!
NO MO Ri-NO
She has indeed earned whatever she gets from a book deal (so far nothing official, as far as I know.) But, she told Greta the other day that anyone in politics should not be doing it to get rich, and only do it with a “servants heart.” I suspect that any money she gets from a book deal will be mostly given to charity, and she will once again prove that she is vastly different than any other politician we have seen in years. Matter of fact, politician is actually a dirty word to most, so she must be something different altogether.
I watched a movie earlier .
The country is being ran by Potters. Sarah is a Bailey :)
Caroline Kennedy will be a bonus for Sarah if she runs for President in 2012. No longer can the MSM claim that Sarah, as a sitting Governor, is inexperienced (she has already campaigned on the national stage) and that she lacks the gravitas to serve (Caroline Kennedy in the Senate). And Sarah is not making mistakes. Showing she is fiscally conservative (recent budget) and a person of character (refusing a pay increase) will only enhance her standing among the GOP base. Whatever the MSM says about her in the future, it will not matter. Sarah is charismatic, atwitter popular and extremely credible. As I have said many times unless Sarah does not want to run in 2012 or she faces a major scandal (not Troopergate) in the future she will be at minimum a top 3 candidate in 2011-not bad for someone who was hardly known in the Lower 48 3 and 1/2 months ago.
love her
all Dems and their states should take note
Every time I see a picture of her like this one I swear the temperature in the room I’m in goes up several degrees.
Sarah... SARAH..... SARAH..... SARAH!!!!!!!
PRESIDENT PALIN!
She'll need to cut their budget just to pay for all the Federal taxes Obombanation is planning on imposing on her tiny little state.
It would be a sound investment in our future of our republic
The NYT's would have a front page expose' on what a hypocrite she is while her people in Alaska suffer because of the price of oil
I just shed a tear.
And about 49 other states and one federal govt. but what gets me is that all of these pols see what she is doing and what her popularity is and don't follow. I do not understand it.
The pols understand the ignorance and apathy of voters...IMO. They get re-elected.
Of course that will happen after Bert and Ernie (also known as Olberman and Maddow) point out that this proves Trig is not her baby.
7 million is a nice start for a campaign chest. I so hope she runs for president!
Why do they feel they need more money?
Class.
