JUNEAU, Alaska, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said she would refuse a $25,000 pay raise during her current term as Alaska governor.
A state commission recommended boosting the governor's pay to $150,000 from $125,000.
The five-member state Officers Compensation Commission, created by the state Legislature, also said legislators needed more money, along with the lieutenant governor and government department heads, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
If the commission pushes ahead with a pay raise, Palin will not accept the money, spokesman Bill McAllister said.
"Her view is, it's just not appropriate to accept a pay raise in the middle of the term," he told the newspaper.
Palin's term ends in 2010.
Palin makes 46 percent more than her most recent predecessor, Frank Murkowski, but is the 24th-lowest paid governor, the commission said.
What Sarah has shown is that she thinks more of the people of Alaska than she does herself. When everyone is pinching pennies, she wants to make sure she is not the one pinching them.

Unlike most of the other morons in politics, 25K means a lot to the Palin family.
Link...for signed book deal?
Thanks!
I can see the MSM reaction, ‘Palin refuses to support own family!!”
Imagine my SHOCK that it's none of the above... ;-)
Coupled with her intention to reduce Alaska’s increase in expenditures next year, this reflects very well on her. Kudos to Sarahcudda!
Que Jaws music here. Time get out of the water Democrats.
Another smart move by Gov. Palin. She just gave herself a great soundbite for future campaigns. She’ll more than make up that $25k/year in political capital. As for a book deal, I hope she gets a high seven-figure and keeps every penny she can. She’s earned it for the shots she has taken and given for our side.
Years ago Congress set it up so that the raises are automatic, and they must hold a vote to NOT receive it. By not actively saying "no," they passively get the raise.
SB,
I predicted this eon's ago with the money going to Down's Syndrome related causes.
If it puts Maureen Dowd's and Peggy Noonan's Panties in a bigger wad than they already are, it is fine with me.....
“Coupled with her intention to reduce Alaskas increase in expenditures next year...”
Correction, she wants to *cut* spending 7%. Not just slow the rate of growth. Cut.
Even Reagan couldn’t do that.
Palin ‘12.
Accept no RINO substitutes.
Never see a RAT doing this . The RAT would be asking why not more >>>
I thought I had read that she was only cutting the increase in another article this morning. If you are correct then I am sorry for the incorrect promise.
Showboatin’. Just like selling the plane on ebay. Showboatin.
I need to say to her “ YOU DA MAN “
We love you, Sarah!
Will the IRS want their cut of the 25k, as if she had of taken it? Wouldn’t have surprised me.
Not only is it smart politics to refuse the raise, she probably has thought about the tax implications under a Democrat regime. She may want to ask for a pay cut when they finally decide who is “rich” and who is “middle class”
exactly..had she taken it, it would have been headlines “Governor accepts pay raise as she denies small children and women (through budget cuts)”..THAT would make worldwide headlines..
I imagine some MSM reporters are cussin up a storm cause she ruined their good story..
