JUNEAU, Alaska, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said she would refuse a $25,000 pay raise during her current term as Alaska governor.
A state commission recommended boosting the governor's pay to $150,000 from $125,000.
The five-member state Officers Compensation Commission, created by the state Legislature, also said legislators needed more money, along with the lieutenant governor and government department heads, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
If the commission pushes ahead with a pay raise, Palin will not accept the money, spokesman Bill McAllister said.
"Her view is, it's just not appropriate to accept a pay raise in the middle of the term," he told the newspaper.
Palin's term ends in 2010.
Palin makes 46 percent more than her most recent predecessor, Frank Murkowski, but is the 24th-lowest paid governor, the commission said.
Other politicians TALK about budgetary restraint. Sarah makes it HAPPEN.
Other politicians TALK about ethical practices. Sarah OPERATES by them.
Other politicians TALK about family values. Sarah LIVES them.
And... Sarah is “unqualified” to serve as President??????
This would make an awfully good TV campaign ad.
And that’s right. Palin doesn’t have Washington “experience” in driving an economy into the ditch.
I’ll take Sarah Palin’s “inexperience” any day of the week, including holidays.
She already said if they go ahead with it either it will go directly to charity or be used in another way to serve the community. I tell ya, what a woman, and yet the libs continue to smear her, geez I wonder why, perhaps fear of what a REAL woman looks like. Hey Libs, you all wanna see what a real woman looks like, she lives in Wasilla, Alaska

Why take the raise? She made so much money on eBay selling all those RINO bought designer clothes......(sarc)
No wonder the ‘elitists’ in DC didn’t want her there!

At least we can thank mccain for bringing Sarah into our lives! I know some here knew about her already - I kept seeing posts where smart freepers were pushing for Sarah - so in my “where is the silver lining” approach to the crap we get daily, I have to say “ok, thanks mccain for doing something I can appreciate”
Good for her! I can’t say enough good things about her. First of all this shows integrity. She’s calling for a 7% cut in the state budget so she should refuse the raise...and it also shows she’s a good politician for refusing the raise. SOOOOO many of our current GOP officials are absolutely tone deaf to this kind of thing. Thank goodness Sarah is the real deal.
