LONDON - The pilot of a vintage biplane says he ran into an unusual hazard while making an emergency landing — a cow.

"I have to say it is the first cow I have ever hit in 22 years' flying."

Let's hope it's the last, as well.

Not a proper cow tipping, IMO.

"I clipped her and she went rolling away but seemed unhurt and carried on grazing. The aircraft was very slightly damaged."

Close call for the cow. Dead-stick almost turned into dead steak. ;-)

I'm pretty sure you're right. Remember this is AP so they're pretty ignorant about things military.

Real timely reporting on this one. Incident happened 3 months ago, the footage has been on YouTube for a month and a half and MSNBC is just now getting around to it? Sweet.

Tiger Moths were widely used by the British in WWII as a primary trainer.

The de Havilland DH 82 Tiger Moth is a 1930s biplane designed by Geoffrey de Havilland and was operated by the Royal Air Force and others as a primary trainer. The Tiger Moth remained in service with the RAF until 1952 when many of the surplus aircraft entered civil operation.

For all of you animal lovers out there:

Cowgate solved: The cow is okay, but the Tiger Moth...don't ask!

For the worried readers among you that were concerned about the safety of the cow that was hit by a Tiger Moth recently, fear not, as the official report has come out today informing us that the cow is thankfully okay, but the Tiger Moth definitely isn't, incurring "substantial damage" to the aircraft.

Still... it means that we can laugh at the video once again, so in all it's glory here it is: Video Link
