NEW YORK Customers of New York City-based Citibank have lost access to much of their account information because of a computer outage.
Many of the troubled bank's clients haven't been able to retrieve account details online or by telephone since Tuesday afternoon. Others can access only parts of their account profiles.
Citibank telephone representatives say they don't know what caused the outage but technicians are working to fix it. They've been telling customers to call back after Wednesday morning.

LOL. I’m happy I switched from Citi to a major credit union in October. Now, I just have to close my Citi accounts next week.

I just logged on and am looking at my Citibank accounts at this very second.
Another badly reported story from AP.

I used my CitiBank credit card this afternoon and yesterday afternoon.
My son works for another large bank which had a computer outage which lasted several days. It was due to a hardware error in their networks. They were “ticked”, because the vendor had known about the error, but had neglected to inform them. That outage impacted access to user account info, including the system used by the tellers, but not the credit card system.

This story should be retracted by AP.
Not only am I looking at my Citibank accounts now, but I was also on the Citibank site this morning.
And a check deposited earlier today has properly posted and appears in my online account.
Same as the last 10 years.

Unfortunately, I can sympathize very closely with Citi’s IT folk.
Sounds like a bad day at the office. Familiar.
In fact, I had a very similar crappy day today...but not this bad.

Nah. I’m certain that each account has a balance of $249,999.99.
And if Citibank goes down we are all hosed anyway.
