Pro-life pastor Rick Warren will give the invocation at President-Elect Barack Obamas inauguration. It makes a whole lot of sense. Even though Warren and Obama disagree on the life issue, they do see eye to eye on many social justice issues. This move is also classic Obama because it is a signal to religious conservatives that hes willing to bring in both sides to the faith discussion in this country. Obama has never shied away from that.
The benediction will be led by Reverend Dr. Joseph E. Lowery. The Civil Rights leader seems to be the perfect pick on such an historic day in this nations history. Watch Reverend Lowery preach with Barack Obama watching here.

For a short while afterwards, I was encouraged that he had (supposedly) asked harder questions that I imagined, and McCain (seemingly) answered the hard questions truthfully and well.....(hey, I wanted to believe that he believed...but now I know the truth)
And we know how Obama answered the abortion question...
..and we know where Obama stands on abortion, even to infanticide.
So Rick Warren shouldn't be caught a hundred miles near this inaugural invocation!
It appears that your single issue is abortion and anyone who does not hold your precise view is not worthy.
Oh, yeah. It is my whole response for now, and just on the issue of Warren’s accepting the invitation.
But do I have any confidence that Warren will pray as Johns Calvin, Knox, Edwards, Piper, or MacArthur would?
Nope. If there was much chance of that, The One wouldn’t have invited him.
But I’m not going to sledghammer Warren into the ground until he fails. And I’ll pray he doesn’t.
I wasn't doubting you.
Man, wouldn’t that be awesome if Warren laid down a biblical worldview invocation with admonitions of God’s wrath for not following the clear meaning of His Word?

Gwen it’s all-good! (c:
MrB every kind of amen. He has the opportunity to be PROPHETIC.
But he’ll probably be PATHETIC.
I'm enjoying an early Christmas present from my husband...

Love it!
The last time I looked, Rick Warren wasn't Jesus. Not even close.
All birds of a feather ... pieces go together ... Rick Warren, Hugh Hewitt, Mitt Romney ... Hugh Hewitt promoted and praised the heck out of both of them on his radio show for ages. They did look great from a distance -- Hugh had me going for Warren for nearly a year, and for months with regard to Romney -- but with time and closer examination, to me they revealed themselves as self-important "saviors" who confuse appearance of substance with actual substance. Goody two-shoeses presenting the appearance of being the most Godly person, the most Grown-Up Person, in the room. They are no wiser nor grown-up than anyone else, but because they believe themselves otherwise and have convinced tens of thousands of gullible sheep of the same, they do much harm.
“The last time I looked, Rick Warren wasn’t Jesus.”
The logic, or lack therof throughout this thread makes my hair hurt.
Because Warren isn’t Jesus he shouldn’t follow his example (possibly metaphorical) of “eating w/publicans and sinners. However, the other things Jesus did, let’s say clearing the temple, is an actual, nay, a required call to arms for self-described holders of the Holy Grail of Truth to rise up against the government, society or whatever else tickles their fancy.
Seeing as how so many already have their knickers in a bind, to quote “The Bishop”: “We was too late...”
you're not worthy PM, but we tolerate you
isn't that special of us?
You are too eager to attribute what Warren is doing to his seeking to follow Jesus' example. You can buy that angle if you need to, but I reject it. In fact, think you're gullible for falling for it, and I think you cause harm by falling for it. Jesus was in it for each one of us, then and forever; it sure looks to me like Warren is in it for Warren and Warren's Church.
If Warren was following Jesus' example, he'd have been out quietly, soundly, effectively, selflessly "eating with publicans and sinners" long before this. It seems to me Jesus went about his business doing good and did not promote himself, but became promoted through the results of his work. Warren promotes himself before the results are in to sway the results; he markets himself on a grand scale, he wants you and me and the whole world to recognize him as one who Leads the Flock, and he is only a man, but Jesus was Lord. That raises a big red flag for me and should for you too -- Warren is not Jesus and if you begin to attribute goodness and authority to a self-proclaimed leader simply because he imitates Jesus in such worldly endeavors as what Warren will do for Obama, then you are leaving yourself wide open to being duped by a false prophet.
Appearance and reality are two very different things, and I think you fail to discern between them on this issue.
“we tolerate you”
As they say: “You got a mouse in your pocket?”
yep, we tolerate you but I’m not giving you a free pass
i want you to have to stand in the daylight
i’m like Barry Hussein, I want a veneer of transparency on your sweet musings here.....everyone might not be aware how open minded you are or what your real agenda is
i think you just come here off to toy with us, it entertains you and then you can go back and regal your peeps with tales of how the bigots are on FR
As I quoted earlier...
Warren is coming to give the invocation at the inauguration, a sacred ceremony in our civic religion that celebrates the peaceful transition of power. Yes, Obamas views on abortion are repugnant, but his inauguration still represents an essential moment in our constitutional Republic that should be celebrated with prayer, especially when the public official is clearly in need of it. I see Warrens participation as sanctioning and celebrating our constitutional order, not Obamas pro-choice views.
Hewitt was in maximum Warren Shill Mode on his show yesterday. As Tammy Bruce (filling in for Laura I. this morning) says, and I concur, it is no wonder the GOP is in such a state of disarry. Just look at all the okey-dokey, namby-pamby, pusillanimous, weak, spineless, lukewarm, “let us all now support Obama,” worthless jellyfish and clueless saps we now have running/advising the party. Yes, I mean Hewitt and his ilk.
Amen.
