Allen police say woman made no attempt to flee scene of husband's murder

Authorities say an Allen woman accused of killing her husband was determined to finish the job but made no attempt to flee the bloody scene.

His wife, 51-year-old Kimberly Shanks, was being held Tuesday in the Collin County Jail, charged with murder. Unlike most people in her situation, she smiled for her mug shot.

The Shankses had lived at their home in the 1400 block of Lone Star Court in Allen for 14 years, a neighbor said. Police had visited their home before, but none of those calls involved violence or abuse, Allen police spokesman Jon Felty said.

The couple's neighbors, who asked that their names not be used, saw no signs of violence at the Shanks home, either. But some reported that the couple had problems, which became most apparent in a note they say Ms. Shanks distributed to the neighborhood two months ago.

Neighbors say the notes, posted on their doors, made disparaging remarks about Mr. Shanks.

It doesn't appear anyone took the notes seriously, and one neighbor, who ran into Ms. Shanks a few days after they were distributed, said she behaved as if all was well.

Police have collected one of the notes from a neighbor, but Sgt. Felty said he hadn't seen it and couldn't confirm its contents.

About midnight Sunday, the couple's son, who does not live with his parents, stopped by to pick up some things and found his father lying on the kitchen floor, police said.

"There was a lot of blood," Sgt. Felty said. "The son ran out into the front yard and used his cellphone to call us."

What’s wrong with divorcing a man and leaving him for some other unsuspecting (or suspected) woman?

I don’t get it. Why kill and go to jail when you can divorce and leave him penniless and homeless?

Local news for me. Yeah, she flipped her lid. Not sure what led up to it ... I hear that he was verbally abusive to her. She killed him while he was passed out drunk. Strange behavior from her leading up to that day as well. Freaky.

The note would seem like a good indicator of crazy. Who writes nasty things about their husband and distributes it around the neighborhood?

Crazy people don't need real reasons, their heads make it all make sense.

Um. What had they been there before? Why mention it, and not give a reason?
