It's said that to work, humor must contain a kernel of truth. No wonder David Letterman's effort to wring humor out of the shoe-throwing incident fell so flat, as he joked that Muntadhar al-Zeidi had been offered a show, of all places, on Fox News. Letterman was playing off the report that al-Zeidi is reported to be hot-tempered and possess poor journalistic skills.
How bad was the Late Show's bon mot? After airing it on Morning Joe today, Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist gave it a double thumbs-down.

Letterman’s failed joke ping to Today show list.
Would Big Media call him a Hero?
Nothing like getting a shot in on Fox News, eh? Oh, people didn’t get it. Had to think for about a half-hour before you get the stupid idiotic point.
I believe the last time I watched Letterman was at least 20 years ago. Has he ever actually had a skit that worked or said anything funny?
I never watch either; just occasionally catch clips on shows like Morning Joe. To me, the guy seems unpleasant, not funny. Don’t get his sense of “humor.”
Having gratefully missed yet another exhausting sound bite fest between Mika and Willy - I was watching Fox and Doocy said something I like to think means much:
He wanted to acknowlege the mad journalist who had pretty good aim with his shoes would have just five years ago been beheaded for his action - whereas today he became famous for a few seconds.
Doocy suggested the idiot thank all those men and women who have sacrificed their lives and limbs so this idiot could perform his tantrum on camera.
Face it, Letterman is a relic, his jokes are tiresome and he needs to hang it up. I wish someone would nail him with a shoe but with a foot in it aimed at his butt on his way out the door.

“MSNBC instead of FOX, moron. Would have made more sense.”
MSNBC wouldn’t work, Dave loves Olbermworm and has him on the show often.
Letterman who? If only he had ratings like FOX.
Something in the water
Letterman
Rosie
Jon stewart
Colbert
To some extent Leno
They start out as funny genuine entertaining shows and then invariably degrade into blistering hatefulness. The strangest thing is the consistency of the process...weird
He fits the MSNBC host profile much better.
Actually that’s a potentially funny line. Olberman’s obsession is a different thing.
Then bring them forward present, stopping every 100 years. Let them ply their trades at every stop. Heads would roll, were it not for the fact that they had not already lost them at the first and again at every stop thereafter. MAYBE they'd notice that what was 2,000 years ago still IS today?
Letternerd thinks this Iraq incident is funny? You are so right; sandman insane would have had the shoeman’s head and those of his relatives, too, for far less serious offenses.
Send the shoeman and letternerd BACK to the sandman era. Or, just send them to your choice of Iraq's neighbors and have them repeat their performances.
Stone age justice and severed heads.
I dunno...O’Really seems about 3 blood pressure points away from brogan pitchery.
I still TIVO the show now and then and enjoy a good laugh on occasion or a hot guest. So here's my lefty Letterman report.
Nearly everynight Letterman has "Great Moments in Presidential Speeches." He will show the greatest moments of past presidents speeches and then show Bush misusing a word or stuttering. Now he even laments that Bush is leaving and the spot will go away.
He never does that to others. We've all heard OB sturrter through a spontaneous exchange. Never showed on Letterman.
He has been consistantly criticizing the war, handwringing and fawning over guests who espouse how horrible global warming is. Most recently blaming Bush for the economic downturn. Of course, no mention of the democrat role or the recent Charley Rangel scandal in his own backyard. Surely, a NYC story.
I used to watch the entire show. I guess I'm hooked, but with TIVO I can see what I want and dump the rest.
I kinda like the scenario that Dana Perino put out on F&F this morning. What if about 6 years ago that guy would have thrown a shoe at Saddam. I would imagine he would have been introduced to the paper shredder, shoes first.
Muntadhar al-Klymer: BIG TIME!
