HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Pedophile and convicted murder Ottis Toole abducted and killed Adam Walsh 27 years ago, Hollywood police Chief Chadwick Wagner announced Tuesday.

Authorities announced that they've finally solved the 1981 killing of the boy whose father later gained fame as the host of "America's Most Wanted."

Wagner said Tuesday that after a fresh review, he is ending the abduction and murder case of Adam Walsh.

Doesn’t sound like much of a candidate for repentence, does he?

My heart has broken for him every day since 1981 murder. I had our first son in 1981. The case really hit me hard.

I lived in South Florida when this happened. Believe me, it has had a profound influence in how I go about raising my kids, I make sure they are never out of sight of a relative or close friend.

When I was that age, we would go off alone, but I can't even imagine letting my kids do that today.

I imagine you may have had “something” in your eye...I certainly have something in mine.

John Walsh is one of the finest Americans there is. A man who took personal, heartbreaking tragedy and internal rage and transformed it into a mission to help and save our children and to get regular Americans involved in getting criminals off our streets. I especially love his taunts to captured criminals when he’s present at the capture. He’s earned the right and he speaks for the victims. Because he refused to let a POS make him one.

I hope John and his family can take some solace from this. And I agree with the poster above that his heart breaks for him. No matter how many years go by, the mention of the evil that took his innocent boy has to rip that wound open once more.

I personally believe it was Jeffrey Dahmer.

I am not so certain about Ottis Toole either, even though the Walsh family so needs closure.

Toole confessed then recanted and supposedly told a neice on his death bed that he really was the killer. Is the neice telling the truth and why is this just coming out 12 years after Toole died? Maybe the neice wants a book deal and needs her uncle's name pinned to a famous case?

The only other thing not mentioned was Toole's psycho sidekick Henry Lee Lucas, who supposedly was saved after getting the death penalty in a case unrelated to the Walsh case. He said Toole showed him Adam Walsh's body.

Toole had info on the crime, but again, cops fed him a lot of info. He took cops to the burial site but no body or bones were found anywhere. The burial site is the only piece of info that even the cops didn't have, so Toole didn't have it either.

I'm not satisfied, but this family obviously is. So that's what matter. God will sort them all out in the end.

Admin, TCPalm listed this as “Breaking”. This is a national story that is almost 30 years old. It spawned “America’s Most Wanted”, and John Walsh has become the most popular victimized father in the world.

I grew up in South Florida. I remember this story almost like it was yesterday.
If this isn’t considered “Breaking News”, I don’t know what is.

The guy “confessed” to hundreds of murders, most which turned out to be lies. Even if he did do it I don’t see how a deathbed confession suddenly solves the case. Still, if it brings some sort of closure I guess you can call it whatever you want.

I knew what you meant, and I agree. I could only hope to be as strong, and accomplish what he has in the wake of the tragedy. I fear I’d turn to a useles bowl of jello, though. I hope I never find out.

No, they un-topic’ed it as “Breaking” that’s all. They gave me lip a while back for a goof up, I’m returning the favor ;-)

I'm not satisfied, but this family obviously is.

And for good reason. There's been no new evidence, and unless there is, there will always be doubt.

That was a kind of dividing line down here. Everybody who was here remembers the case. Maybe that's when everybody started locking their doors.

I’ve read the article and listened to the news, and maybe I missed it, but why did they choose NOW to declare him the murderer? Just wondering....
