The cop may have been wrong, but Critical Mass cyclists are nothing but self-indulgent bullies.

He better plead for the mercy of the judge. I can’t see how he can argue this was the way he was trained.

police said Long was arrested because he was obstructing traffic and had deliberately steered his bicycle into an officer.

I can't watch the video here at work, but if it is the one I remember the bicyclist was clearly not steering his bike towards the officer. If anything he was steering away and the officer had to go out of his way to take him down. One big obvious lie on the charge makes me doubt everything else the officer said.

Maybe both were a-holes, but the cop was the one on video attacking, lying on official charges and doing both under color of authority.

No sympathy for the cop from me. He needs to lose his badge. Nothing worse than a bad cop.

That officer really shouldn’t have done that. But I watched it five times for the sheer enjoyment. Whamo! LOL!

The police officer targeted the bicyclist out of a group, advanced on him with four steps, and body checked him in such a way as to knock him off his bicycle, and possibly into the crowd on the sidewalk.

Had he wanted to stop and cite the bicyclist, he would have used different tactics. He could have forced the bicycle to swerve towards the curb, then grabbed the bicyclist. Instead, what he did was a hunter-prey attack, that could have harmed innocent people as well.

Here we go again!

Soon, just like 5 months ago, the "Police Brutality Apologist Squad" will arrive to tell us that the video "clearly" shows the bicyclist steering TOWARDS the officer. Even though what it CLEARLY shows is a bicyclist steering AWAY from an onrushing pedestrian, until he is pretty much FORCED to straighten out his wheels or hit a 6" curb. It also pretty clearly shows that IF the officer had not continued charging into the PATH of the the bicycle, that the two would have been about 3' away from each other as it went by him.

Alright.... So, NOW the PBAS can jump down MY throat and tell ME how WRONG I am. They'll even be able to put words in my mouth and thoughts in my head as they pontificate that because of my abhorrence for police misbehavior, I MUST "hate" ALL police and that I MUST be some kind of evil "anarchist".

It's okay... I know the drill...

Sources familiar with the investigation said the charges against Pogan are expected to be misdemeanor assault and felony filing of a false instrument.

It's always the cover up that gets you.

Cop went out of his way to nail the biker who was clearly trying to avoid.

Good bye badge and job. Cop should probably do a week in jail with his kind.

Is it possible that the biker did this to another police officer before his video taped encounter? Police officers do have the ability to radio ahead, even if they are on foot.

Here is another video from Critical Mass, showing other incidents of "brutality".

In the first one, a police officer is stopping a bicyclist that has just run a red light, and was refusing to stop. If you run a red light and the cop tells you to stop, you gotta stop.

In the next one, a cyclist runs into an officer who is holding a cup of coffee and walking in a crosswalk. Immediately beyond the officer, where the bicyclist would have been if he had been lucky enough to run into the police officer, a 40 foot RV rumbles through the frame at about 30 mph. But for the officer standing in the way, it would have squashed the bicyclist like a pancake.

I pretty much stopped watching at that point....

Nightstick to the spokes works and he could have shielded it from the camera a little easier, make it look like an accident.

These Critical Mass people are an arrogant menace to society and someone should clock them. Their behavior is vary dangerous putting themselves and others at risk.

Still, the officer had no right to chase someone down and knock him to the gronund. The bicycilist could hat the light pole or the curb and been seriously injured.

What the officer did was done with malice and forethought. He should be severly punished for jeopardizing someone’s safety and life under the color of law. I am talking loss of job and jail time. He is not above the law and should be held accountable for physically bullying someone.

That aside, I do not sorry for the bicycilist. They and he are jerks.

Critical Mass are pests. I support the policeman here. Due to the law coming down on this cop the Critical Mass anarchists will have more room to run amok

Next time your menaced by a criminal call critical mass and not the police.

None of you know what it is like to Live and Die in New York or to be a police officer here.

Cops in New York don't opt for jury trials because of the nonsense that has been written here by you so-called Law and Order types. Thankfully under New York State statutes you have the choice of a jury trial or one by three judges, and it is the later that police officers who have been alleged to have committed a crime take.

May I suggest that you chaps hop over here to NYC and take a tour with me of central Brooklyn, the Bronx (its no longer just in the South Bronx), southeast Queens, the East Village (aka Alphabet City), and of course Harlem.

I doubt that many of you would go or go unarmed, but I have without one in a police uniform without a vest.

I make this remark not to claim any heroics on my part, but to show you how asinine your position is. You forget that cops are people just like you, and that when they're faced with possible imprisonment for their actions they simply won't put themselves in harms way. They'll simply do what they did when John Lindsay, Abe Beame, and David Dinkins were Mayor, they'll coop, which is NY cop speak for hiding from the public and crime.

Unfortunately, this kid was white and only three months out of the Police Academy. He simply didn't get the job explained to him properly. However, you can be sure that had he been black, hispanic, female, or gay that all his alleged misconduct would've been excused and he simply would've been "retrained".

We have numerous cases here in New York where the cops have had to use they're weapons with high rates of fire, resulting in the death of people who weren't armed. After the trial the cops where found innocent. Years from now, unreported on this site or any other, this cop may be acquitted in a court of law. After all, even in the NFL their instant replays have to be viewed from a multitude of angles by the officials before a judgement can be made of the call on the field. The NYPD has numerous cameras through out the Times Square area as are there numerous private cameras.

You Tube doesn't show you these angles, nor does it explain the left wing bent of the DA office in NY County (Manhattan).

Well after having read this thread I can say that conservatives and liberals have found common ground -- they both hate the cops. Good Luck in anarchy...its coming soon to your community.
