Rove Blasts Obama On Senate Seat Scandal
The Hill's Briefing Room ^ | December 16, 2008 | Bob Cusack

Karl Rove, who refused to answer questions for years on the outing of Valerie Plame as a CIA official, criticized Barack Obama on Monday for not being more forthcoming in the Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D-Ill.) scandal.

Rove, a former top White House adviser to President Bush, said on Fox News, "[Obama] should have, right from the beginning, been more forthcoming."

Rove, a Fox News analyst, added, "He should have come right out at the beginning and acknowledged to the American people exactly what we already know, which is that somebody on his staff, somebody on his team, talked to somebody in Blagojevich's office. That's not the impression they left with the American people. They should have, right from the beginning, said, 'Here's what we did and here's who did it.'"

Pressed by liberal Alan Colmes of the "Hannity and Colmes" show if Rove thinks Obama is hiding something, Rove responded, "I just think he’s mishandled this."

Rove believes that Obama's transition team should "answer the questions and be done with it. These things tend to be corrosive over time and this is an unnecessary distraction."

Rove acknowledged that Obama's popularity is high, but said "his [poll] numbers will be lower than they should have been otherwise because some people will say, 'You know what? Why didn't he shoot straight with us?'"

Obama has noted that he did not have any contact about Blagojevich's alleged effort to sell Obama's vacant Senate seat. On Monday, Obama's transition team said the president-elect's staff did not have "inappropriate discussions" with Blagojevich about who should replace Obama in the upper chamber. However, Obama has not yet detailed what discussions took place between the governor's office and his staff.

It has been reported that Obama's incoming White House chief of staff, Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), had discussed with Blagojevich a list of candidates who would be acceptable. Emanuel is not a target in the probe and it has not been alleged that the contact he had with the governor was illegal.

Emanuel has refused to answer questions about the probe and whether he talked to the Illinois governor about the Senate vacancy.

Rove refused to answer questions on the Plame scandal when speculation surfaced in 2003 that he was the White House official who illegally leaked Plame’s name to the media.

Three years later, conservative columnist Bob Novak reported that Rove was one of his sources about Plame. Rove was reportedly close to being indicted in the scandal but Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald only pursued charges against I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, then chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.

Then-White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said Bush knew that Rove was not involved in the leak. McClellan later asserted that Rove had misled him. Bush initially indicated that he would dismiss anyone who had played a role in the Plame scandal. Rove resigned in 2007, though his departure was not tied to the Plame probe.

Rove served the President and country honorably. The author steps all over his right to criticize the incoming administration. Would never have done that regarding the many evasions of President Clinton's people.

Rove was forth coming about Plame, he testified before a grand jury in which his testimony was secret.

Don’t you just love that lead sentence? Hey, Rove wasn’t a president-elect who promised transparency, he was a presidential adviser.

And he had nothing to do with the Valerie Plame leak. They tried to pin it on him for more than three years, and failed. The real leakers were Democrats and leftists, who were given immunity by Fitz for their help in framing Scooter Libby.

Not only that, but Rove didn’t lie, he just kept silence. Obama LIED, and immediately started changing history and forcing news outlets to deepsix their stories.

Other than that. . . .

And I should add that I’m not a great Rove fan. He was one of the guys who pushed the RINOs to the front. But he did his job admirably, and I supposed he did what he was told.

IIRC Hillary screaming that we had a right to critize any administration, maybe she would come back and do that scene again, so people who disagree with this or any administration won't be condemned

Bob Cusack a flaming idiot.

Rove testified before the grand jury.

And in any case it was both Armitage at State and his boss Colin Powell who spilled the beans on Plame (but not a crime) and then kept it secret from the White House.

WTF does one have to do with another.

when will someone come out a say that Richard Armatage was the one the outed Plame and not Rove or Scooter Libby.

‘Progressive’ delusion... Valerie Plame wasn’t ‘outed’.

The Barbarians are within the gates and now they want to govern. God Help Us!

One of his sources? Yeah, Novak told Rove what he'd heard about Plame, and Rove said something like, "Yeah, I heard that, too."

That's counted as a source so Novak can ethically publish - gotta have those 'confirmations' in old school journalism.

I don’t think there is a Blago-Obama Scandal, but there is a Rezko-Obama Scandal.

This is all nonsense.
We all know that Blagojevich was just a guy who lived in the neighborhood.

"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic," she howled. "And we should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration."

This is an example of the victors rewriting history and drumming falsehoods till they are accepted as fact.

Armitage was the source leak of Novak’s story.

Armitage was the source leak of Novak’s story.

Armitage was the source leak of Novak’s story.

How many times do we need to state this FACT before the propaganda boobs in the MSM and their lackies get it right?

Forever, because their propaganda machine never rests.
