World Bank Warns Israel to Keep Giving Funds to Gaza

(IsraelNN.com) The president of the World Bank and other international fiscal authorities are warning Israel in a strongly-worded letter not to withhold cash from Gaza.

According to the Associated Press news agency, they also advised Jerusalem not to allow Israeli banks to implement a decision to sever ties with their Palestinian Authority counterparts in the Hamas terrorist-run region.

The letter, dated December 12 and received Monday by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, was signed by Robert B. Zoelick, Quartet Mideast envoy Tony Blair and International Monetary Fund managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Withholding cash and ending reciprocal relations between Israeli and Gaza-based PA banks might have a “considerable impact on the Palestinian economy and its institutions, and ultimately on Israel’s longer-term relationship with the Palestinians,” the letter warned. The international monetary officials expressed concern that limiting cash supplies to the terrorist-controlled region could strengthen the black market there and further weaken the already-faltering banking system, arguing that this would weaken PA Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas in the effort to weaken Hamas.

Israel classified Gaza as a hostile entity after the Hamas terrorist organization seized total control over the region in a militia war with the rival Fatah faction in June 2007. The Hamas charter expressly refuses to recognize the State of Israel and calls for its annihilation.

Although the Israeli government has stated its objective is to ultimately topple the terrorist regime, Defense Minister Ehud Barak nonetheless recently approved the transfer of millions of shekels in cash into the region to re-invigorate the Gaza economy.

Government sources explained the cash was needed to allow the Ramallah-based Fatah-led PA government to continue to pay Fatah loyalists who still live in the area.

Okay, this is going to be a dumb question but why can’t Gaza get their own money?
I’m serious about this, I really don’t know.

Gaza is effectively bankrupt because it is populated with people who are totally fixated on death, murder and mayhem. Peaceful economic develepment isn’t even on their list of ‘stuff to do’. The ONLY product they actually produce and export is mass murder and on-stop grievance theater.

Thank you!

It strikes me as being the same as the Detroit situation. The entire state of MI has to support them because they are too lazy or stupid to support themselves.

Why doesn’t the World Bank start some businesses there? Let the people of Gaza produce something instead of having “idle hands”?

Am I wrong on this?

Actually, it already has.
My daughters used to dance at the “Arab International Festival” in Dearborn. We were the token Eastern Europeans.

There is a tent where vendors set up shop. I can't tell you the amount of Hamas and Hezbollah booths there were. And women, in Burkas on the rides creeped me out.

I'm glad we don't go anymore

This is madness!!

It is insane for Israelis to give money to Hamas to use to buy weapons to kill Jews.

They should just stop any aid completely and right now.
But they won’t.

However, the least they should do is announce that for each rocket that lands on Israel they will deduct a certain amount of the next payment.

And in the event anyone is injured or killed, or any property is damaged the money will diverted to aid the injured, the family of the deceased, or to repair the damage.

Sending aid to the very people who attack you with intent to kill just ensures they will continue their attacks.

No... you’re dead on correct. But Gaza is deeply anti-western and, in large measure, anti-capitalist. Even the World Bank knows that opening a business there is extremely risky because you have to bribe people to get anything at all done. Capital is drained by the criminal mindset that dominates Gaza. It’s like opening a business knowing full well the Mafia is going to shake you down for cash on a regular basis.

Until the people in Gaza get tired of non-stop Jihad they will never change and never get ANYTHING constructive done.

Because "Bloodthirsty Savage" isn't what you call a high paying career choice.

Pay or else? Sounds like blackmail. Okay, I’d pay up to Gaza, with napalm.

It is going to take the deaths of 10,000 Israelis before they do something meaningful about Gaza, such as eliminate all population therein. It will take the death of at least 100,000 Americans before we begin to countenance the idea of getting rid of the one billion islammunists that have infected this planet.
