Disdain for Bush, hope for Obama on climate change

POZNAN, Poland (AFP) – George W. Bush's last hurrah in the global climate arena has met with a welling of disdain contrasting with the outsized expectations for his successor, Barack Obama.

At the UN climate talks in Poznan, no farewell tears were shed for Bush, whose rejection of the landmark Kyoto Protocol in 2001 almost destroyed multilateral efforts to roll back global warming.

"I don't know how to put this," top climate economist Nicholas Stern said mischievously at a dinner for businessmen and environmentalists, where he commented on Obama's election.

"Relative to his prehistoric predecessor, it is something which we should celebrate," he said, provoking loud cheers as he raised a wine glass to make a toast.

"Goodbye, George!", he called out, amid cries of "Hear! Hear!"

South African Environment Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk sighed at the legacy of Bush's two terms.

"It was a very difficult eight years. It was a disaster for climate change," he told AFP.

Even Ban Ki-moon, the ever-diplomatic UN chief, offered a veiled reproach when asked to comment on the performance of US federal climate policies.

"They should have done more proactively, by joining the Kyoto Protocol," he said.

The slick way they have adopted the new way to get around how it is colder now is to use the talking phrase of today is “climate change”.

They don’t call it global warming cause they know it will not cut it any more.

My reaction to this comes because I'm still smarting about the devastating election loss we just sustained. My comment does not relate to my believe that the ground under Al Gore is beginning to disintegrate as the scientific community breaks away from the UN imposed consensus. So my comment does not relate to scientific moonbatism or disguised socialism, it relates purely to the American domestic politics and of the world politics of it.

The world's reaction to George Bush's position on the Kyoto treaty is analogous to the big three bail out. In both instances he gets all the blame, and in the end when he gives the bad guys what they want, he gets no credit.

If I were an outgoing president despised as much for what I did not do as for what I did, I would damn sure take the bully pulpit and make my case. It is not just George Bush's legacy which is at stake here but the shape of politics for a generation to come. If George Bush thinks that his expected memoir will make that case and restore his legacy, he is probably unaware that the book reviews have already been written for the New York Times Book Review.

This is amazing. The far left continues to scream the sky is falling even though they have to ignore a decade of falling temperatures to do so. It is like someone taking an around the world cruise and then joining the “flat earth” society.

Well, darling, they are not going to have a lot of money to “spread their wealth” are they. With people not making money, where are they going to get their tax dollars from?

What could it be?

Why, it’s the underground economy. Mr. John Hancock, glad to meet you.

If these collectivist boneheads sign onto this scam , an especially bad idea during a recession , I suggest we give them what they want. Since they hold our production is so destructive , stop producing. They are looting the wealth we make possible to buy the votes of those who hate us . Its time to go on strike.

Won’t something have to be passes in Congress before they can rape our 401 accounts? I think even the Big Zero is backing down on his promises to the 52% that voted for this idgit.

The words “Climate change” won’t save ‘em though because we all remember their predictions of warming and seas rising, etc.
They can’t predict the weather or the climate and sure as hell can’t do anything to change it

George W may get some better reviews when they realize he also saved the world from jumping into the GW pit

Won’t that frost ‘em to admit: George was right
