Sarah Palin's Holiday Open House Dec 13th 2008
Sarah Palin just loves working a crowd. Last Tuesday she opened the doors of the Alaska Governor's Mansion, hosting 3,300 supporters, gawkers and cookie fiends at the annual Christmas open house.
Palin shook hands and posed for photos, making sure to say a special hello to the children, a.k.a. the guests least likely to ask any awkward questions about pardoning turkeys or geography.
The open house has been a tradition for 93 years. Fortunately the house even comes with a "residence manager" so Palin didn't have to get down and dirty with the catering, decorating or cleaning.
Speaking of catering, there were over 20,000 cookies at the event, including: raspberry and pecan tartlets, Russian teacakes, and dark chocolate almond roca. No word on whether the Russian teacakes were baked in Alaska or over in the "neighboring" country.
Sounds like it was a delightful time for everyone who attended!

Yes, I live in Anchorage.
Wasillia is only 60 miles North of town. I posted the newspaper article (ya, it is kinda an old story) link.
If it is arson, the Troopers will nail the bad guys.
Wooten made a lot of folks think the Troopers are all goons - they are not. They have very sharp investigators..and Wasillia IS a small town - someone saw something it is ony a mtter of time.
If something pops up in the next day or so, I’ll Freepmail you - OK? I’ll also ping a couple cop buddies of mine to see what the ‘word’ is on the event.
Merry Christmas.
Thanks, you are right—that blurb is all we need to know about the fired San Francisco former exec Cat Lincoln: an embittered feminist leftist.
Sounds more like "Catty" Lincoln.
Just how many Governor's mansions DON'T have managers of some sort?
She loves children, and took the time and effort to greet them and make them feel special, at a very special time of year for her and for those children. I'm sure it was magical, and they'll never forget it.
And, there's no amount of catty snarking from who-knows who on LOL ... errr, AOL, that can change that basic fact.
To be fair, I’d say the tables were turned from 2001 to around now. It was around this time 8 years ago that the entire media was in a state of grief and mourning after the SC ended the recounts.
Our time will come again, thuogh.
“We have rules around here, Jess.”
Huh?
you gotta post pics if it’s a Palin thread...:) you gotta give us our fix, ya know?? :)
Photos which do not violate the copyright restrictions imposed upon Free Republic are fine. Your photo from Time Magazine was in violation of copyright rules and had to be removed.
Hey Cat! Don't critize someone for what they do when you are not willing to contribute.
“Are you going to tell us that Laura Bush didn’t personally log, truck, erect, and decorate the White House Christmas Tree?”
They wanted to contrast her with Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Rosalyn Carter, who did all of those things! (over-the-top sarcasm)
MEOW!
“And yes, folks had a lot of fun. Sara throws a pretty mean BBQ in the summer here in Anchorage.”
Maybe our governer needs to start doing something similar.
oh crap...sorry
Alaska state government is a study in contrast.
While appeartly quite open and accessable, it is in many ways too good old boy/on the take. The recent troubles of The Ted are illastravive... HE claims that the work, while paid for, was done by friends - and that kind of help is still common today.
Understanding where to draw the line seem to be the stickng point.
Good luck with your Gov - I suspect sheer numbers dictate his/her current accessability. Alaska has ‘about’ 630K totlal residents, with some 50% in ANchorage and surrounding communitys.
