These are large Canadian imports.

Not the smaller American wolves.

0.01625% of 2,000,000 cattle in Idaho.

Sounds like the big boys from the Great White North aren't all that good!

This is terrible. Conservationists from across the country should set out into the wilds to investigate these rumors of slaughter that the ranchers and Fish and Game Dept. officials are spreading about this endangered species.

That should keep the wolf packs busy for a bit.

It will probably get worse in the next couple of months - big snowfall last night in Bonner county and the temperature's in the single digits and headed toward zero. It takes food to make heat and they have to eat, and so they'll be coming down to where the food is.

I don't begrudge them the meal and I'm willing to kick in to reimburse my neighbors who lose stock - at least to a point. It seems a better use of my money than paying for bank executives' golden parachutes or auto union thugs' pension funds. What grates is the blithe and cheery attitude on the part of urban Greens who seem to think the wolves ought to live here and I oughtn't, and who "re"-introduced Canadian wolves on the top of a population that wasn't actually extinct at all and is now pressured by the competition. Stupid and unnecessary meddling by pious fools. IMHO.

And yes, I'm nearly always armed on my property. I'm not hunting anything, I'm just making sure nothing is hunting me, at least successfully. The relationship between humans and wolves needs to be of mutual respect, and it strikes a proper balance when they know that going too far can get them shot.

Those large Wolves have a bite strength of about 1,500 PSI. A German Sheherd has about 750 PSI.

Wolves were reintroduced into the mountain grazing lands of AZ a few years back. Amazingly they seemed to attract high power rifle bullets.

In Alaska, wolves had just about decimated the caribou herds. Many Alaskans, especially natives in the more remote villages, depend on caribou to feed their families.

So the game and wildlife dept. implemented a wolf control program which included hunting them from the air.

The idiotarian Palin-haters have blog posts up all over the leftosphere calling Gov. Palin as a bloodthirsty maniac who kills warm and furry animals just for fun. Some even portray her as shooting them from the open door of a Huey, ‘Nam-style. (Whan wolves are hunted from the air, they actually use fixed-wing aircraft).

These people are stuck on stupid and full of hate, a combination which is troubling.

The deer and elk hunters should just take them out during the season and eliminate the problem!

Years ago I just missed nailing one on the Idaho/Montana border in a snow storm by about 5 seconds!

Excellent audio/video of hundreds wolf dens around your campsite. The one dog bark you hear is the photographer's pet dog.

The animal-predators are needed in the wilderness and near-wilderness areas of the northern states and Canada.

Northern farmers and federal game and land-management regulators have been trying for years, recently, to strike a balance between domestic live-stock protection and protecting the plant-life from over-grazing by over-populated herbivores.

When wolves could be hunted and killed at will, the Elk and Deer flourished so greatly that a high % of baby Aspen trees were eaten before they ever matured. In some areas there had not been new Aspen growth at all in a generation. That fact radically changed everything in the areas where it occurred the most; from soil erosion, to fewer small scrub plants and grasses, to fewer small animals and fewer fish in nearby streams and rivers.

The big predators keep the Elk and Deer populations at a lower, yet stable level; one that does not allow them to graze their plant-food-crops into extinction.

The sacrifices of the ranchers must be balanced with the needs of the whole environment around them.
