In private negotiations over the state's budget crisis, a top Republican legislator has broached the most dreaded idea in GOP circles: taxes.
The leader of the Assembly's Republicans, Mike Villines of Clovis, has publicly maintained the GOP's hard line against any tax increases. But last month, he volunteered to other legislative leaders and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that he might support an increase in the vehicle license fee and persuade other GOP lawmakers to go along, according to three people with knowledge of the discussions.

Villines got caught in his own web of deceit. Our car license fees are already through the roof.
Gee! That auto tax is cheap!
Here in RI, for a 2002 Honda, a 2006 Honda Civic, and a 2004 Toyota Corolla, my auto taxes are $1200 a year, on top of $60.00 registration fees.
Now RI is talking about a $.01 cent per mile road use tax, or $120 per 12,000 miles, on top of all of that, to try to balance the 2009 budget, plus tolls on the federally built Interstate 95/195/295 as you enter or leave the state!

I am sick and tired as a CA resident to have my taxes continue to go up and work my butt off while we continue to pay up the nose for illegals and wasteful gov. expenses enough is enough. Arnold-Schwartz and Kennedy has not done us any favors I think he is listening to much to Uncle Teddy.

Let’s think about this...unions rule this state and there are bloated budgets everywhere with 5,000,000 illegals bankrupting every social service...and all they think of is asking for more taxes, regulations and homage to the high priest Al Gore and his myth.

Speaking of Blago and doing the exact thing you defeated the incumbant for doing... our DemocRAT Governor got elected by running as a "reformer" against the corruption of outgoing RINO George Ryan, constantly bringing up that the "Republican controlled" Governor's office sold driver's licenses to unqualified illegal aliens in exchange for bribes, and that ol' George had doled out state jobs to "questionable associates" like appointing Jesse Jackson to run the state's "KidCare" program.
Six years later, and the Blago administration's legacy was first handing out driver's licenses to unqualified illegal aliens (Blago said it was differnet because he did it legally), and then trying to sell our state's U.S. Senate seat for bribes... and doling out state jobs to "questionable associates", including try to give the Senate seat to Jesse Jackson Jr. in exchange for bribes.
The more things change, the more they remain the same. These RINOs and Democrat machine politicians sure seem to enjoy implementing each other's policies in office after attacking their rival for it on the campaign trail.

When they had the high tax on cars in CA,people kept their cars longer and took pride in driving old cars. Plus the state got less sales tax revenue because car sales were lower.
People with old cars tend to drive less..so less gas tax revenue.
All this fuss just to insure that illegals continue to fuel the demand for more teachers, counselors,prison guards,parole officers, hospital workers etc. All paid for by us..the taxpayer.
If Ahnuld hadn't bankrupted CA we might have money for a recall election. But since we don't we won't. We'll have to wait until 2010. Then we'll have to deal with Gavin Newsom, Jerry Brown and all of the other socialists that the Dems will have running.
