SHE is the perfect wife, with the body of a Page 3 pin-up and housekeeping skills that put TV’s Kim and Aggie to shame.

Her name is Aiko, she can even read a map, and will never, ever, nag.

Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t she fellas? And she is.

Aiko is actually a robot, a fantasy brought to life by inventor Le Trung.

Why not? Some dope in Japan is trying to marry a cartoon character!

I loved that scene. I agree it was one of the best written stories that I've seen in a while. I think Fox says every year, which show do I want to cancel that's not making now but will be in a couple years and takes that one off the air.

oh and to add to the Robots again... Chobits!

Every character was really fleshed out and interesting... And you’re right. Ron Glass was terrific in Firefly, and he certainly had a very interesting character. Too bad we’ll never learn his secrets, and he certainly had a lot of them...

That photo was from a really hilarious scene!

And if we have gay marriage, then how can we deny marriage between a person and a machine?

Let's assume for the sake of argument that a robot could be built that could pass the Turing Test (this is probably 50 years away...at least). I could see such machines being granted "personhood" under the law, and under those circumstances making marriage a legal option would be reasonable.

I hope not. The idea that a machine built in a factory being granted “personhood” while children can still be killed in the womb because they’re “not persons” is sickening.

I wouldn't worry too much right now; it will in all likelihood be decades (at least) before we can create sentient computers.

Not to jump in late in the conversation, but...

Rent Firefly from Netflix and watch them in order then watch Serenity.

The series was great and the movie is more enjoyable with the backstory in place...

I just finished getting the Firefly episodes... This is great TV! :-)

I was very lucky that my DVD set arrived from Amazon.com on a Friday... I watched a Firefly marathon - every episode, AND the extras! Then I watched them again, this time with the comments.

I didn't get much sleep that weekend.

At this point, I've lost track of how many times I've seen every episode, but it's been a bunch. It's amazing just how quickly Joss "fleshed out" the characters, and got viewers to care about them. I don't think that there's a guy who didn't fall in love with Kaylee in the very first episode, and I remember wanting to deck Mal in the episode where they meet... How dare he call her a "prarie harpie!" But you'll understand when you see that episode. And it would be so easy to just have Jayne be a totally 2 dimensional "bad guy" character, but he's a lot more than just that, which you'll see soon enough. But to me, the most interesting character is Shepherd Book, the character played by Ron Glass. To be honest, I don't recall seeing him in anything since Barney Miller, though you can hear his commercial "voice overs" all the time.

The episode where Jayne has a statue erected of him in the town square is a hoot!
That episode shows 2 sides of him...one that would dump out a comrade to try and save his stolen money, and one that was so troubled by the kid that took the shotgun blast meant for him.

These shows each have the quality of a medium budget film...far above your average tv episodes.

Can’t believe I was not watching them when they originally aired.

Re: Firefly

I actually remember seeing the opening scenes of "Safe," where the bandits were skinning a rabbit. I didn't get to see the entire episode though. I couldn't seem to find the darned show. It kept getting pre-empted on our Fox station.

But happily, the DVDs let us see the show the way it was meant to be seen. The downside is that the DVD set is all we'll ever see of it. I really hope for another movie, but I doubt it will ever happen, and we'll never really know about Book's past.

One other thing about Firefly... It's got the best "one liners" and quotes of ANY TV show, ever! You can look it up on the web (firefly quotes)!
