Isaiah 40:1

Comfort ye,
comfort ye my people,
saith your God.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: pray; presidentbush; troops; victory
Holy Father,

We see the continuing results of sin in this nation and we ask You to lift us up out of this pit. Our problems are God-sized, Father, and only You can help us. So many are without You, Lord---they are lost, alone, and without hope, for they have placed their trust in the things of this world---in power and in possessions and in privileges---instead of You. But we know that nothing is too difficult for You, and no one is beyond Your reach. We ask that You would send forth Your Spirit into every willing heart, and that the hardness would be softened so that You are able to melt and mold us into the people of God You have called us to be.

Father, our President needs You to direct his path as he finishes up the assignment You have given him over these past eight years. May Your truths penetrate his heart and may they guide him every day. Please continue to perfect everything that concerns him, that Your will may be done in his personal life as well as his public work. May the love of Jesus descend upon him and his family like a beautiful blanket of peace and may their celebrations in commemoration of the Savior’s birth bring glory and honor to You. We continue to bless Your Holy Name for allowing us to have a President who acknowledges You as Lord. Make Your heart clear to him as he focuses upon his plans for the future. May he continue to honor You with his life.

We are grateful for the men and women You have placed in our military forces for such a time as this, and we ask You to shield each one from the hand of the enemy. Grant them everything they need to do the job set before them. We pray that You would shower blessings upon them for their faithful service and that You would comfort them and their families as they spend the holidays away from each other. Father, we ask for special measures of grace for those families whose loved ones will never be coming home again. Comfort them as they mourn and help them to find hope and blessed assurance in You.

Father, because Your Son was born to die on the cross, we pray that our lives would reflect that tremendous love that He offers us. We know that You are faithful and that You will never break Your covenant of blood which was signed when our Redeemer died and sealed when He was glorified. Comfort Your people, Lord, in the Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Every valley shall be exalted,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low;
and the crooked shall be made straight,
and the rough places plain;
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
and all flesh shall see it together;
for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Isaiah 40: 4-5

I ask patient forbearance one toward another throughout the land, and a determined effort on the part of every citizen to do his share toward cementing a happy union; and ask the prayers of the nation to Almighty God in behalf of this consummation. -from U.S. Grant's first inaugural address

God bless all who pray with us.

~ PRAYER ~

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
 Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we  humbly pray,
 and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
 by the power of God,
 Thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
 Amen
