In these days of longer commutes and simmering tempers, nothing seems to set off already-testy motorists like the left-lane camper -- the guy or gal who drives in the passing lane and bars faster drivers from easily passing. Web sites have cropped up to educate other drivers, or to vent. There's a (somewhat painful) YouTube song called "Keep Right."
Even bigwigs get frustrated. Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell, weary of having his limo slowed down by such left-lane pokies, ordered an aide to have the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission install signs a few years ago reading "Keep Right, Pass Left. It's the Law."
And now some states are cracking down on left-lane campers, both to keep traffic moving and to tamp down the road rage that goes from zero-to-60 faster than ever before.
That's not just a pretext. Last year, a driver was arrested on Interstate 79 outside Pittsburgh after allegedly brandishing a semiautomatic pistol at a driver who was on his tail.

Was STUNNED when vacationing in Vermont. Virtually EVERY SINGLE DRIVER IN THE ENTIRE STATE vacated the left lane instantly when not passing. It was WONDERFUL!
There was the Bond flick in Japan in which a helicopter picked up the car and dropped it in the sea. It is my dream job to remove these idiots from the road.
HEAR! HEAR!
Not always true. I’ve gotten behind people in the passing lane who were doing way under the limit and you just wish you had one of those cow catchers from an old train engine so you could ram them into the proper lane and out of your way. When people start passing on the right you know you’ve got the grand marshall in the Rose parade in the wrong lane. And you wonder why the cops are so quick to catch speeders, yet these people chug along and block traffic. /rant
Your cell phone number should be the same as your license plate.
I would think they would get the message when everyone is passing them on the right and giving them various hand gestures accompanied by a mouths spewing a variety of expletives.....sigh.....they don't
It’s largely because we have so many left lane exits.
You do raise the other side of the issue about the left lane. I hate people who are doing the limit in the left lane because it is a passing lane. At the same time if you are doing more than the speed limit (5-10 over) you still get people riding your ass that are not using the left lane for passing either, they just want to stay in the left lane and speed even faster. Bottom line is they are not using the left lane the way it’s supposed to be - just for passing. They stay in there and think because they’re in the left lane they can speed 15-20 miles over and not somehow get or deserve a ticket.
The only time I wind up in the left lane now is when I have to take a turn or an exit on the left side.
If I am already doing 70, dont expect me to pull over when the speed limit is 65
Bump to get in on this later...
I agree with you about TX drivers.....I moved here a year ago....Does anyone know what the signal light is for?
So what? Get out of the way. Impeding the flow of traffic is not only against the law (at least in my state), but its also very dangerous.
As for those that say “hey, I am going to go whatever speed I want in the fast lane because the other guy is speeding.” It’s not your job to enforce traffic laws. Get out of the way!
Do note that Connecticut is loaded with left lane exits. Sometimes people in Wallingford or Hartford HAVE to slow down and be in the left hand lane.
The law is.....slower traffic keep right.
It is the law.
Granny going 55 in a 75 in the left lane really gets old quickly.
Ticket her.
Ever driven on a German autobahn? mmmmm...
Not necessarily. It depends on the gearing of the vehicle. Many vehicles are more efficient at 70 than 55, in spite of the increase in drag from air resistance.

The vast majority of drivers do not know how to properly execute a left-hand turn (or right-hand, for that matter), onto a two lane (or greater), road.
The worst left lane bandits drive in CA. The higher traffic density here doesn’t help matters either.
Most of them are on their cell phones.
Down here in Texas we are considered a polite group especially when we stop on a public street to allow everyone and their dog to enter onto the public street without a care as to how traffic behind us is being stalled.
I don’t think people realize, at least, here in Texas it is against the law to do this. The reason is it is a public right of way.
