WaPo Writer: Caroline Kennedy Appointment as Senator Would Fulfill "Fairy Tale" Dream
NewsBusters ^ | December 10, 2008 | P.J. Gladnick

With all the attention being focused on the Rod Blagojevich scandal involving the attempted selling of the U.S. senate seat vacancy by the Illinois governor, another senate vacancy seems to have been almost forgotten. That is the New York senate seat to be left vacant by Hillary Clinton who will soon become the Secretary of State. So who should New York governor David Paterson appoint to that senate seat? Washington Post writer Ruth Marcus provides excellent reasons why it shouldn't be Caroline Kennedy but then, absurdly, decides she needs to become a senator so as to fulfill the "girly" dream of Ms Marcus to make possible the "modern fairy tale to have the little princess grow up to be a senator." I kid you not. First Marcus explains how her head says "no" but her heart says "yes" in her article about the possible appointment of Caroline Kennedy to the senate (emphasis mine):

On the question of Caroline Kennedy for Senate, my head says no, on balance. My heart says yes! Yes! Right now, as you might guess from the hedging on the former and the exclamation points on the latter, my heart is winning.

Unfortunately, way too many voters allow their hearts to rule their heads such as has happened here with Ruth Marcus.

The sitcom we are living in quite possibly needs another episode. This one would be a lot less stupid than any of a handful of others.

I understand that Ms. Kennedy is not the brightest bulb on the porch.

Can anyone confirm or deny?

I think she is smart and not a bimbo. She may be a liberal, and is, but all accounts of her do not indicate she is dumb.

It is time to end political dynasties. No more Kennedies, no more Bushes, no more Clintons (and in Ohio no more Tafts). If your parent was in politics your generation must find honest work instead.

"But I'm not like everybody else - I'm Caroline Kennedy."

Please spare us the nightmare of yet another Kennedy in "public service".

The Democrat Party is led by the likes of Obama, Reid, Pelosi and Howard Dean. If Kennedy had any brains at all, would they endorse her for the empty seat?

Haven’t heard anything about Caroline specifically, but generally the Kennedys aren’t overly bright. Just rich and powerful. I believe John-John (RIP) had to take the bar something like 5 times before he could pass it. He tended to get more media attention because he was supposed to be the next heir apparent, so that fact was reported. Less so with Caroline.

I’ve never even heard her speak. Does she sound reasonably intelligent?

I understand that Ms. Kennedy is not the brightest bulb on the porch.

I do know that she was once on Imus discussing her book praising the value of public schools, when Imus asked her if HER kids went to public schools.

It was an audio "deer in the headlights" moment. She was so stunned that Imus had to answer for her. "Of course they don't!", he said.

Well, that shows a lack of foresight, because she should have KNOWN that if she was touting a book on public schools, that would have been one of the first questions.

To get blindsided on that may just mean that she has a rotten publicist, though.

Fairy tale is right.

Don’t the libs have enough inexperienced, self serving, nutjobs in Congress already?

Sheesh! You’d think if they only wanted a self serving, lib, Democrat, at least they could choose an experienced one...like John McCain maybe.

I cannot believe my eyes. I have just seen Caroline Kennedy referred to as being smart.

This mental midget has to leave the bathroom door open so she can remember how to get out when she's done.

But but, what about experience. Does she have any at all? No she doesn’t, but that’s okay, because she is a Dem and she’s not Sarah Palin. Why that Sarah Palin, she was the one who wasn’t experienced enough, wasn’t she? Considered a hick dummy by the Dems, wasn’t she? Can any one say hypocrites?

I don’t think that Gov. David Patterson would be that stupid as to appoint this woman as Senator.

So far, Gov Patterson has been very deliberate in his actions. We’ll see. He won’t name anyone until after her Thighness is confirmed.

It will probably be a political friend but not a direct crony.

That shows good common sense, which is in short supply in D.C. That's encouraging.

Do you know where she went to school? What she does for a living?

Whatever you may think of Jackie Onassis, she was a sharp cookie who overcame a very unfortunate upbringing to make a way for herself. I never did agree with her politics or some of her personal choices, but she did have brains.

John Jr. clearly didn't get any from her, but maybe Caroline did.
