Oh ...
“And some fear that North Texas, with its population, sports and entertainment venues and businesses not to mention the fact that President George W. Bush is moving back here after he leaves office in January could be a target next time. “
No, I don’t buy this. With Bush OUT of the WH they won’t care. They know Obama is a weakling. They want a MAJOR city. They LIKE symbolism. North Texas won’t offer up enough dead bodies for them.
Exactly - the urban sprawl effect mitigates the damage.
I should think that hitting one of the big East Coast cities or San Francisco would make more sense.
Any ex-President will always be a target of terrorists for the symbolic value. But, having seen the Secret Service in operation around DC, I don't think there is any terrorist group with the ability to get the President or an ex-President, unless they get very lucky.
I think the next round of terrorism in this country will be focused on less-prepared second-tier cities. Unless the terrorists can get their hands on a nuke (unlikely) theyy're better off hitting soft targets in a place like Wilmington, DE or Des Moines, where the police forces aren't as ready to deal with terrorism as the NYPD or LAPD.
The Ft. Worth Dallas Metroplex has lots of people. I don’t know if it would be a target or not, but, with 6.1 million people in the metro area it is the 4th largest metropolitan area in the US.
I think it might possibly be a symbolic target, simply because it’s Texas (and you know how Texans are).
I don’t see DFW as a target, except for possible WMDs. A Mumbai-style attack here would result in dead terrorists in no time. We’re armed.
I agree. People will just laugh at them if they hit, say, a Taco Bell.
