Will the anti-Obama zealots give the birth allegations a rest?
Rocky Mountain News ^ | 12/9/08 | Editors

By refusing on Monday to hear a lawsuit challenging whether Barack Obama is indeed eligible under the Constitution to become the 44th president, the U.S. Supreme Court should have put to rest the fanciful rumors about the president-elect.

Yet the justices' action will not end the fringe conspiracy-mongering. David Weigel reported in Slate that Obama's foes have mailed "information" packets to presidential electors in advance of their Dec. 15 vote; right-wing activist Bob Schultz, who has orchestrated the campaign, says electors who vote for Obama are committing "treason to the Constitution."

May we offer some advice? Get a life. It appears that the phenomenon known as Bush Derangement Syndrome - with unhinged left-wingers willing to believe any scurrilous rumor about the 43rd president - has a mirror image on the right.

Some claim that Obama was born in Kenya, not Hawaii, and his birth certificate was faked. Others concede he was born in Hawaii but say he gave up his U.S. citizenship at age 6 when his mother, who married a citizen of Indonesia, moved the family to that nation.

It's difficult to believe rational adults can take these allegations seriously (and they have in fact been debunked). Obama served eight years in the Illinois legislature and most of one term in the U.S. Senate. If he were not a citizen, don't you think at least one of his campaign opponents would have found the proof to make that charge stick?

Even if the facts were murky, however, what possible point is there to raising them at this time? Does anyone seriously believe a court is going to try to bar from office the candidate chosen as president by a clear majority of voters? What do these zealots want, civil disorder?

All this brouhaha is Obama's fault, not that of those "Anti-Obama Zealots".

All he has to do is allow release of the vault copy of his birth certificate, proving he is who he says he is. After all, being a US citizen is one of the requirements of the Constitution for the office he is planning to hold, is it not?

What's so outrageous about demanding that?

It should be a simple thing, right?... unless he is hiding something he doesn't want anybody to know. Something which would disqualify him for the office?

The burden of proof is on Obama. He is the one seeking the office. Unfortunately, the "Pro-Obama Zealots" - such as the Rocky Mountain Snooze - refuse to demand the truth or even see it.

Some cutting edge journalism that is! No wonder they are going under. Good riddance.

Investigate every aspect of the Muslim Messiah’s background starting with his birth up through every day he’s in office as well as his staff and all his cohorts in Congress (Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Schumer, Rangle, Reid, Murtha, Kerry, Clinton et al.). There’s enough to investigate hourly every day until his four years are up. The investigations into Bush’s life never ended. It’s payback time! Liberals get used to being treated like you have treated Republicans on an hourly basis. It’s payback time! Hey, Liberals, get used to it. Remember, it’s America and we still have a couple of freedoms left.

To them the Constitution gurantees the right to an abortion and free health care. Other than that , they know nothing , nor do they wish to.

As a Nation, we are dead.

“the fact that there is a Constitutional requirement but no way to enforce it is astounding, to say the very least.”

I’ve been following the “birth certificate issue” from the time it first became known, but frankly, I don’t think any actions that have been taken up to this point are going to prevent Obama from assuming the office of the presidency.

The operative phrase, however, is “up to this point”. I don’t believe that the matter will be settled on January 20th, or at any time in the future until the facts are revealed and the original birth certificate is unsealed for all to see.

However, our defeat on this issue _today_ should not preclude us from taking action that may bring us victory at a later date. And here’s what I think could be done:

There are still conservative states in the country, with majority-conservative legislatures. I propose that between now and 2012, conservatives should concentrate their efforts on or two (or more) states in attempting to pass laws governing the eligibility of presidential candidates, insofar as their qualifications to be candidates in those states is concerned. That is to say, such laws should mandate that a state’s Secretary of State should not permit a presidential candidate (or that candidate’s electors) to be on the ballot unless and until sufficient evidence has been provided to confirm that that candidate meets all Constitutional qualifications to BE a candidate for president, including (but not limited to) the furnishing of a true copy of the candidate’s original birth certificate.

Of course, this does nothing to stop the person who will be inagurated on January 20, 2009 from assuming office. But once these new laws are on the books, if that same person wishes to appear on these states’ ballots _again_ in 2012, he will be required to comply with these new and specific state laws establishing elibility for office. There will be no dodging and no excuses for concealment, as there were in 2008.

I think my proposal is logical and could be reasonably expected to pass, at least in one conservative state, possibly in more than one.

Once passed, these new “eligibility laws” would change the game plan for 2012.

- John

Birthers was suggested, that'll work.

Oh, what the heck ... why don't you just say "Eligibility Deniers" while you're trying to come up with a negative, lefty sounding term? "Birchers" ... uh, I mean "birthers" sounds so sixties. It's tired.

I really don’t see what’s so difficult or “tin-foil-hat” about a simple request to see the birth certificate of someone who wants to be President, in order to ensure that they are eligible for the job.

Maybe because Obama never interviewed for a real job, he just doesn't understand qualifications. And no, it shouldn't be this difficult.

Snicker!!! So on the morning the Rocky tells me Obama has to be legitimate because Chicago was fine with his qualifications, Obamas pal gets hauled off to jail for trying to sell his senate seat! Schweeeet!!!

Maybe Texas would be a good state to try this. Passing a state statute would be a good way to keep the issue alive. Also I’m wondering if the conservative quartet is trying to come up with a remedy that Anthony Kennedy will “buy”.

Like a 50 million man march on D.C. hell yeah.

and it will come.

Once they finish spending and printing the 8 billion they have - there will be no more. THEN

Obambi will have a breakdown, Biden will have a brain operation, and Pelosi will take over and declare Martial Law.

THEN, the Clintons will overthrow Ms P. and THEN the S will hit the F.

Is YOUR powder dry?

“What on this form could be so damning?

I agree this is a huge puzzle.
1. There is nothing about marital status or religion on that form.
2. BC file number allegedly has already been released on the “3-D” pictures of on-line COLB.
3. Likewise, if BHO born in Hawaii, parents’ address of residence already has been publicized in the newspaper birth announcement.
4. Race of both parents allegedly already appears on on-line COLB.

Thus, if the motivation has been to hide something, it would appear to be either Place of Birth or Name of Father.
IMHO, nothing else makes much sense.

Bears repeating I think:

If [Donofrio] is right, the tens of millions over the past century who have been born on U.S. soil to parents who were natives of other countries aren't U.S. citizens, either. Now that's a tall order for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement service to handle.

Let's put this in perspective shall we, using say my own family history as an example: My great great grandfather was Welsh, moved to this country and had my great grandfather here. By Donofrio's logic then, my great grandfather is not a "natural born citizen". Fine. But then that means my grandfather wasn't, nor my mother, and finally me.

IOW, it never ends, under Donofrio's logic. No one, not even descendants of the Mayflower colonists are "natural born citizens", because the "corruption" of not having two natural born parents to produce a natural born child continues down the line to the present day, unimpeded, if Donofrio's logic is to be taken to its "logical" (excuse the pun) conclusion.

If not, I'd like to be shown how this is not the case. How am I a natural born citizen, when Obama is not (if we concede that Obama was born in Hawaii)?

Are Obama's children natural born citizens?
