The San Diego carriers REagan and Nimitz are in port.

The USS Lincoln who uses our air wings is off the coast in training and probably the carrier the Jet took off of to get back home

Oh yes! The Sierra Club is going to have a cow.

Want to lay the blame for the October '07 wild fires? Look no further. They should have been sued out of existence.

Useless bunch of hippies.

Didn't she play guard for the Chargers back in the 60's?

But I digress...

And as Sofaman pointed out, there are schools nearby. It could have been much worse. I have no doubt the pilot(s) did the best he/she/they could under the circumstances, which could have included no control over the aircraft. No sense riding it in if you’ve done all you could to minimize collateral damage. Training takes over.

I hate to say this.....

And yet... you do anyway. Seems pretty obvious that he stayed with the plane until the last possible moment. Once it isn't flying anymore there's no purpose in making the pilot die in the crash.

He stayed with it as long as he could to minimize impact, sounds like the engine went south on him,, not sure how much fuel he had onboard

Oh, and in looking at the google earth of that place it looks like he got it safely past the high school and only needed some hundreds more yards to get it past the houses into open space. But it wasn’t making it.

That would be the NTSB, who investigates all such incidents.

There’s several NTSB “Go Teams” on standby 24/7 just for whenever a crash occurs.

One would think that a FReeper would not make judgements upon the decisions made by an American military pilot who would have to live with his split second actions the rest of his life.

They can’t close the base thankgoodness as with the carriers here ,they are the airwings for them.

San Diego has the largest concentration of Military in the U.S. and there is more buildup.

With all the Navy here and Marines, they all work together.
