Theyre interviewing Steve Diamond, ex-navy pilot. Hes a friend of ours.Wow! I saw a minute of the interview, and assumed from his general hunkiness(!) that he was military.

As we know, jets go down here from time to time and not news but guess with it taking out two houses, makes news.
During Nam, a pilot ejected and the jet went through one of the hangers at Miramar taking out other jets and many men. Remember seeing the many choppers taking them to the Naval Hospital

SONOBUOY PING!
Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

I remember one went down in Sorrento Valley. The pilot was totally heroic. Stayed with the plane to make sure that it crashed in a parking lot before he ejected. Almost didn’t eject in time.

The crawler at the bottom is fine, but I am talking about the huge banners that are nearly 3” tall that they put up above the crwler. If they wanted to put up textual information they could do that without such a large banner. An additional crawler, the same size as the other one would not be so intrusive as that huge graphic is. The thing is more graphic than it is information.

UC Middle School is close by and Marie Curie Junior School is across from the WaMu.

I hate to say this.....but why did the pilot eject when it looked like it was headed for a residential area?
One would think that in such an extreme case, the pilot should have stayed with his aircraft and attempted to divert it to a less populated area.
Even at the sacrifice of his life. Ever see an old chestnut with Dana Andrews called “The Crowded Sky”?
A military flight somehow ends up on a collision course with a civilian airliner. The pilot, (If not mistaken Martin Milner)< after yelling “Well, I’m not gonna kill ‘em all!” deliberately dives to minimize the impact with the airliner, and in doing so jams the canopy so he can’t get out. seconds later the fighter explodes.
The DC-7, although damaged lands safely and all but a few aboard are saved.
