President-elect Barack Obama added sweep and meat to his economic agenda on Saturday, pledging the largest new investment in roads and bridges since President Dwight D. Eisenhower built the Interstate system in the late 1950s, and tying his key initiatives education, energy, health care back to jobs in a package that has the makings of a smaller and modern version of FDR's New Deal marriage of job creation with infrastructure upgrades.
The president-elect also said for the first time that he will launch the most sweeping effort to modernize and upgrade school buildings that this country has ever seen.
We will repair broken schools, make them energy-efficient, and put new computers in our classrooms, he said in the address.
The president-elect is bringing new elements of his domestic agenda into his economic recovery plan, committing to a path toward giving every American access to an electronic medical record as part of an economic recovery plan ... that wont just save jobs, it will save lives.
Obama had talked in the campaign about lowering health care costs by investing in electronic information technology systems, but not in the context of the economy.

THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IN HIS OWN WORDS ON NUMEROUS ISSUES
New school buildings will not change a thing, first God must be welcomed back, then Morality must be made more important to the little skulls full o’ mush.
None of which is the FedGov’s purview.
***...and what’s scary is he’ll really try and do all of it, never once thinking about the cost.***
And Congress will likely bend over backwards to accommodate him. Predictions for the National Debt?
I’ll go with about 50 quintillion (and that’s a conservative estimate).
The old New Deal didn’t work, and neither will the new one. Didn’t Obama tell us about insanity as doing something over and over and expecting a different result?
That’s why the people who are not going to pay for it, but will benefit from it, love the big O. Those of us who will pay for it, and benefit little might think differently. But, that’s socialism - pay for someone else’s party.
I want 0be to build a bridge to sensible economics from the bozos in Congress.
If we manage a bit of hyperinflation, you could be right.
"Sweep-'n-meat"? Obama's new slogan?
Hey Obozo! As long as I get my middle class tax cut (yeah, right).
Yes, it is FDR socialism on steroids. Get ready. He will make what Carter and Clinton did to America seem conservative...
The head Democrat spending the hell out of the money we don’t have after his Democrat party crashed the economy by screwing around with home mortgages....
Shocked, shocked I tell you.
It would have been nice if the Republicans had stood up and pointed that out. Don't hold your breath for that to occur. They prefer to be scapegoats for other people's crimes.
As a child the public schools taught us how wonderful FDR was and how Uncle Joe was our friend. This disaster was set up by CRA lawsuits by community organizers, moles & fellow travellers getting wealthy imploding Fannie & Freddie and injecting the virus into the financial system.
This is a power grab.
I think our only hope may be Donofrio, Wrotnowski, Thomas, Alito, Scalia, Roberts and maybe Kennedy. I will take a Constitutional crisis caused by a fraud over a depression caused by a tyrant. I hope the Justices “get it” because I know Leo does. SCOTUS needs to protect the public from this huge fraud and the power grab by the Legislative and the Executive (to be).
I do not trust the GOP either. McCain, Lindsay Graham and Crist the RINOS are sucking up to O. Bush has been AWOL or comotose for the past 18 months. Our only other hope if SCOTUS allows this coup to go forward is Mitch McConnell.
Obama says he wants ideas from the public. Well, although I'm a white boy, I'd like to submit my idea.
HOW 'BOUT TEACHING THE KIDS HOW TO USE THE COMPUTERS INSIDE THEIR SKULLS BEFORE WE GO SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY ON SIMULATED BRAINS!?
That only holds true for the other people.
“That only holds true for the other people.”
Good point. How silly of me.
