I use these:
The 18 gallon (or larger) size.
Mine are filled with Pasta, Rice, Beans, Pasta-Roni boxed dinners, egg noodles, Those gravy mix packs you see in the stores, all sorts of stuff.
One BIG advantage: They are stackable.

If you use tables beside your sofa, get rid of them and replace them with a garbage can with a wooden round top and cover it with a tablecloth. You can make them as fancy as you wish and no one will ever know what you have all that extra storage space.
