Jesus Versus the Atheists (Washington State Gov. Gregoire insults Christians Worldwide)
Townhall ^ | Dec 6, 2008 | Bill O'Reilly

Posted on 12/06/2008 6:51:08 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Just in time for the Christmas season, Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire has insulted Christians all over the world. Inside the state Capitol building in Olympia there is a traditional holiday display featuring a tree and the Nativity scene; perfectly appropriate since the federal and state Christmas holiday celebrates the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

But this year Gregoire decided to add another item to the display. Standing alongside the baby Jesus is a giant placard designed by atheists that reads: "There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

You read that correctly. The governor of Washington State has permitted an attack on religion to be displayed in her office building as part of a Christmas presentation.

Even the producers of "The Twilight Zone" would have rejected this script as being too far-fetched. Gregoire's behavior is offensive, insulting to all people of faith and totally incomprehensible.

Unless you know what's going on in Washington State.

Seattle now rivals San Francisco for secular-progressive nuttiness. The city fathers are allowing public nakedness in city parks and nude bike riding, and in Fremont, a Seattle suburb, they actually put up a statue honoring Vladimir Lenin, the father of communism.

Some on the Seattle school board actually supported denigrating Thanksgiving by teaching children about the atrocities against Native Americans by the Pilgrims.

In addition, Washington State voters have passed assisted-suicide legislation, and the state gives out free birth control pills, including the "morning after pill."

On the quality-of-life front, the streets of Seattle are full of homeless people, but they don't have to be out in the rain. The city will pay to house alcoholics and drug addicts if they want it. They can actually get free furnished apartments. Taxpayers, of course, pick up the tab.

Outside of the Seattle area, Washington State is fairly conservative. But the big-city population base rules, and far-left zealots are running wild. However, they may have overstepped on this Christmas deal.

I believe that most Americans, even those living in the far-left enclaves, respect uplifting traditions like Christmas, where peace and love is the theme of the great day. Calling religion "enslaving" doesn't exactly fit into the peace and love scenario, does it? Can't we all just get along for a few weeks in December?

The answer to that question is no. Not in Washington State, where the governor believes a few nuts have a legal right to run down the Christmas tradition in the lobby of the Capitol building. At this point there is little left to say except this: Where are the wise men when you need them?

This is not a matter of what Atheists believe. It's just a curious scientific finding that all the Atheists studied so far have a serious and debilitating visual defect.

You'all are just not normal in the biological sense of the word.

Look, what you are missing is that the only religious value of the items you miss is in the minds of the people who think they have religious value.

The Constitution merely requires the state to IGNORE what other people might think when it comes to religious value.

It's just stuff as far as the Constitution cares.

If you want judges and government officials to impute religious meaning to that "stuff" that would violate the Constitution.

They can go do that on their own in the comfort of their homes, but not at work eh!

There's a lot of psychobabble in there, but there's one scientific fact that was established ~ the Atheists (self described) were 30 milliseconds slower.

That's a biological problem.

If you want to dig into the psychobabble have at it.

In all fairness, the State Bldg IS STATE property and putting a nativity scene is an obvious instance where they’re NOT separating church and state.

In all fairness, tell me where "Congress shall pass no law respecting an establishment of religion nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof" mandates the elimination of religious symbolism from the public square? This was strictly a limitation on the federal government. It didn't apply to the states, some of which at the founding of the Republic and thereafter had official state churches.

I’m not the one categorizing...your friend who wrote the cute little note is. The rest of us are just playing with you so you know how it feels to be categorized. The Christians in the US are so vastly different that it’s difficult to phanthom. The group think and steriotyping being pushed by the marxists in the media and in the schools regarding “Christians” would be laughable if it wasn’t such a blatant disregard for even our own most recent history, let alone the long, long history of divisions and wars between us all. No Virginia...we are not all alike.

As soon as someone shows me some examples where chimpanzees, orangutans, mountain gorillas, or some other higher primate, other than man, have lifelong same sex (sexual) partners then perhaps this atheist might change his mind about what “natural” means.

It would be one thing if the atheists had asked for space to put up somethig to represent atheism, or even asked for a positive statement about atheism (though Ican’t think of one at the moment.) But to put up a hate-fille attack like this on the public’s dime is offensive ahte speech and should never be tolerated by any level of government.

Are you suggesting that we all start eating our young as well? You know that is tolerated in the animal kingdom.

Trouble is; I did not know that I was being “played with” your’s and the comments of others are so typical that it is getting routine.

Well, it’s not only same-sex dogs who object.

My 60-lb female German Shepherd (God rest her great soul, whether you believe in God or not, never mind about animals...) was dominant and despite never being fixed, didn’t like being dominated.

My sister’s big 110-lb male when younger (not puppy, but close) once tried to “mount” her after they were standing quietly under our tree. She turned on him so hard and nearly bit his head off for that offense, you wouldn’t believe it. She drove him bumbling and rolling some 30 ft away. Never did she show such ferocity any other time. No wounds, but while he was a tough dog, he didn’t touch that subject again.

Was she thus homosexual? ;-)

I'm not typical...but are you? If you are then you will continue to insult, put up circular arguments and when all else fails you will stomp away claiming insult to your inner tissue core.

There's this fish where the female is big and the male small. He borrows into her side, his head dissolves, and all that's left are his sex organs.

Yup, he's monogaous!

Where did you get the idea that I am suggesting anything? I don’t believe that homosexuality as it occurs in humans exists with other animals, expecially in a life long relationship.

You are the one who used the animal kingdom as a reference or model for human behavior standards. If we are to be like them, then let's just take it all the way...Yum yum.

I truly don't think you understand the article.

As for the "30 milliseconds", that is for Global Precedence / Reaction Times.

It is an interesting finding and more research will need to be conducted.

However,

That's a biological problem.

The authors of the article disagree with you.

If you want to dig into the psychobabble have at it.

That "psychobabble" is how scientists write....

Of course, you are going to cherry pick what you like and ignore the rest of the article. This is why belivers aren't welcome in the scientific community.

I especially enjoy the part of the sign that says religion hardens hearts and enslaves minds. When the Freedom From Religion Foundation opens a soup kitchen and a hospital, they can give me a call. Ditto when they can explain how Aquinas, George Washington, Louis Pasteur and MLK had “enslaved minds.”

Intolerant exclusion by your own rules has been tired already, couldn't you guys come up with some other more ingenious form of rejection for the heretics to your shrine?

To be honest, I’m trying to understand what you wrote and it’s just not clear to me. Can U rephrase it in some way so your premise comes across more clearly?

You're cherry picking one statistic from a study that you don't understand and you demand inclusion in the scientific community?

GET REAL.
