Very sad to hear that the Ackermonster’s passed.
RIP.
He was quite the character if remember correctly. He didn’t shy away from interviews or appearances. RIP.
I did some editorial work for him at one point quite a few years ago. He gave this green kid fresh out of college a chance, and quite a bit of my career to this day goes back to him letting me try my hand. I’ll definitely miss him, and I’ll always remember him fondly.
RIP.
RIP, 4EJ.
Around about ‘75 my wife audited a sci-fi evening class at UC-Riverside. The prof simply refused to believe any of her anectdotes or that she knew Forrey. Field trip—really why she signed up—was a visit to the Ackermansion.
Prof about dropped her teeth when Forey’s face lit up, geated the spousal unit by name, and planted a friendly hug & kiss on her.
Nearly the same reaction when Ray Bradbury visited the class as a guest, except, to add insult to injury, he used a pet name for her.
Tip o the hat to a pioneer of the industry.
