Senior Clay Edwards’ photo won’t be in this year’s Bracken County High School yearbook. He’ll be listed as “not pictured.”

For Edwards it wasn’t missing picture day or a case of the flu that kept him out of his last yearbook and the class of 2009 composite – it was a dog collar and makeup......

Ten bucks says that he'll get into the yearbook. And that he'll get some kind of juicy settlement from the School District.

“People gawk at you like you spawning another head,” said Clay of his appearance.

Which is exactly why you do it, Clay. "Look at meeeeeee!"

“At a reunion, i noticed most of the wilder kids in HS had become the stay-at home moms, attorneys, etc, and the good, clean kids, if they were still alive, were all drunk, doing coke in the bathroom, and generally unhappy with life.”

Not suprised.

The kids that do better in life are the ones that have a LITTLE rebellion, but know where to draw the line.

The “wild kids” and the “good kids” are two sides of the same coin. They don’t know where the line is so they go to the extreme in one direction or the other. It isn’t surprising that when a wild kid decides to clean up they go to the extreme other direction (and visa-versa for the good kids.)

I’m glad they kept him out. He should learn now actions have consequences and that the world doesn’t revolve around him.

In my day, he’d get his ass kicked not for how he looks or what he represents, but because he’s just stupid. What a jerk.

HA! That's what I always tell my high school age kids but evidently that doesn't happen anymore. You would think this is a dress code violation at least?

So he wants to look like an a##, let him. I’m sure one day when he’s older and maybe decides to get a job, a family and a wife his kids will enjoy how dad looked in his day

A clear case of homophobia— Clay will have his day in court when the deviants at the ACLU get wind of his gas.

If he really doesn’t care what other people think, then he shouldn’t care that he’s not in the yearbook.

I think they should have let the picture go in. That way his children and grandchildren could mock him.

Unfortunately, our punitive justice system cannot handle this type of freak. Killing them etc. is too severe. People should start thinking of bringing back the whip, the stocks etc. I can see him getting 50 on his bare back all the while a picture of him as a Goth is hung before his face.

I never had very much rebellion in me — never swore, never drank, never did drugs and still don’t and I’m doing fine (married almost 18 years, two kids, 6 digit salary). I think the real issue is why a person is or isn’t a rebel and what their relationship with their parents is. A lot of the quiet kids who go nuts go nuts because they go away from their parents (who kept them in check or sheltered them) and a lot of the rebels that calm down calm down because they go away from their parents (who were what they were rebelling against). You can learn a lot about people from their parents and their relationship with their parents. You can see that in this article, too.

As long as they were looking at the clothes, the hair, the makeup... they weren’t looking at “her”.

and

Hair/makeup really doesn’t matter at that age, IMHO. The more fuss made over it,,,the more the thrill the kids get out of looking that way.

I agree. With any luck, he'll be chuckling over his choice of attire 10, 20 years from now. I myself in the 80's was rather, but not completely, punk. And a bit Madonna girl (shudder!), think permed, tinted hair (usually red streaks), the whole nine yards. Now, I'm a freeper, and my son is even more conservative than I am.
